A.R.E. Treated Wood

Known for its strength and flexibility, Spruce is possibly the most popular tonewood for guitar building.

Giving you that great tone and versatility, the Yamaha FS5 red label guitar features a premium solid Sitka Spruce top.

To improve its already fantastic sound, the top has been treated to Yamaha's newly developed Acoustic Resonance Enhancement (A.R.E.) process.

When tonewood ages, it gives you more resonance, better sustain and fuller tone. Through controlled heat, humidity and pressure, the A.R.E. process gives the Yamaha FS5's solid Sitka Spruce top those same aged qualities.

As a result, you get the rich and wonderful tone of a decades-old guitar in a brand new Yamaha FS5.

Complementing the lighter coloured Spruce top are rich Mahogany back and sides.

Just like the solid top, the back and sides are also solid and imbue your tone with more pronounced, bright and airy trebles and increased volume.

Concert Style Acoustic with New Bracing Pattern

As a concert guitar, the Yamaha FS5 produces has tighter, more articulate tone than larger guitars such as dreadnoughts.

This means it lends itself perfectly to fingerpicking style guitar playing and complex chording.

Within the concert style body of the Yamaha FS5 acoustic guitar is a new and improved bracing pattern.

The initial design of the bracing is based on that found in the Yamaha FG-180 50th anniversary reissue.

Through research and experimentation, Yamaha have made several adjustments to the bracing that are optimised to the wood and body shape of the Yamaha FS5.

Now, you get even fuller, more powerful tone with enhanced low-frequency response without compromising the focused nature of the FS5's sound.

Performance Enhancing Features

An African Mahogany neck is attached to the concert style guitar body of the Yamaha FS5 and has a matt finish giving you smooth, comfortable playability.

An Ebony fretboard is used, offering a strong, durable playing surface with a beautifully tight grain for smooth and speedy performance.

Atop the neck is an Ebony fretboard which is stronger and more durable than Rosewood with its tight grain lending itself well to speedy performance.

Ebony has also been used for the bridge and bridge pins which provide incredible transfer of vibration energy from your strings to the solid top of the Yamaha FS5.

The nut and saddle are made from bone, further enhancing transfer efficiency of energy from your strings to the neck and body giving you natural, loud and clear tone with fantastic sustain.

The original Yamaha FG shape headstock has a truss rod cover emblazoned with "Since 1966" as a tribute to the original Yamaha FG guitars.
