Thin Maple Shells

This Tama Starclassic Yesteryear kit is constructed from 100% maple that has been crafted into super strong and brilliantly resonant thin shells.

All the toms are 6 ply / 5mm and the bass drum is 8ply / 7mm.

Characterised by its even amount of highs and mids combined with slightly warm lows, maple drums produce warm clear sound that’s ideal for a wide range of playing styles and performance settings.

Tama decided to use a thin shell construction for the Tama Starclassic series in order to optimise the resonance and vibration transfer from the drumhead to the shell.

Typically, thinner shells result in a loss of strength so although you may have improved sustain you have less durability.

To combat this, instead of using fewer plies to make the shells thinner, Tama slimmed down each ply and then cross laminated them to achieve thinner shells that are actually stronger than others that are thicker.

The result is a Tama drum kit that delivers superb sustain and rich resonant tone without jeopardising strength and durability.

Quick Lock Tom Brackets

One of the most ingenious features of the Tama Starclassic drums are the Quick Lock Tom Brackets.

Fitted to the rack toms and the floor tom, this distinctive, ground breaking feature allows for quick and easy set up and breakdown of the drum kit.

Offering robust stability and reliable hold for your rack toms and floor tom legs, the quick lock tom brackets provide strong support throughout your playing.

But the benefits don’t stop there, the quick lock tom brackets also work as integrated memory locks to provide quick and consistent setup every time.

Once the rack tom or floor tom is positioned on the stand or legs simply slide the switch on the tom bracket to make it separate into two parts.

The memory lock portion of the bracket then remains on the tom stand on floor leg and the drum can be removed ready to be replaced in exactly the same position next time round.

No need to add extra memory locks or to make adjustments with a separate drum key, simply slide and set.

Offering hidden acoustic benefits, the quick lock brackets are also rubber lined to provide isolation from the drum in order to enhance the resonance of the shell.

Star Cast Mounting System

The 10” and 12” rack toms of this Tama Starclassic kit are fitted with Tama’s Star Cast Mounting System which works in conjunction with the quick lock bracket to deliver maximum resonance and stability.

The sleek streamlined design of the star cast mount makes it much easier to position toms closer together to achieve a more comfortable and ergonomic playing set up.

The star cast mounting system attaches to the rack tom via 4 lug points to prevent direct contact with the shell which would detrimentally affect the drum sustain.

Tama have switch the construction of the mount to aluminium to provide a lighter weight and to offer even truer tonal vibration for hardware that significantly enhances the tone of the toms.

The result is strong support and precise placement for your rack toms without negatively impacting their sound.

Hold Tight Washers

As with all the kits in the Tama Starclassic series, this Tama 4-piece shell pack is fitted with patented hold tight washers.

Featuring a totally unique design, these washers have a cup shaped stainless steel frame that contains a rubber ring to provide improved grip between the tension rod and the hoop.

Typically, vibrations loosen the tension rods which results in the drum becoming out of tune but here the softness of the hold tight rubber rings stays in constant contact with the tension rod and hoop to maintain friction that prevents loosening.

This enables your drum tuning to lock in longer to ensure a consistent tone from your first touch to your last hit.

Die-Cast Hoops

All of the toms in this Tama shell pack are fitted with zinc die cast hoops as standard to provide easier and more consistent tuning.

Die-cast hoops are manufactured by injecting molten metal into moulds which results in a hoop with a consistent shape and more density than standard triple flanged hoops which are bent into shape from metal plates.

Offering a stronger shape, these die-cast hoops provide better contact with the tension rods to deliver much easier tuning that stays in place longer.

The die-cast hoops also provide a crisper attack, clearer resonant highs and more powerful rim shots to ensure your kit sound has added impact.

Air Cushioned Floor Tom Legs

Further highlighting that sound is at the epicentre of everything that Tama does, the floor tom legs of this Tama Starclassic Maple kit feature air cushions to provide improved sustain.

Typically, vibration from the floor tom transfers to the floor which results in a tom sound that's choked, dampened and lacking sustain.

The Starclassic Air Pocket rubber feet feature a special air chamber to combat this by eliminating the vibration transfer resulting in a floor tom that sings with thunderous sutain-filled impact.

Bass Drum Spur Bracket

The 22” bass drum of this Turquoise Pearl Tama Starclassic Maple Yesteryear kit is fitted with MSB30 die-cast bass drum spur brackets to deliver superior hold.

Featuring the same hinge mechanism as the Tama MTB30 mounting bracket, the bass drum spurs feature unique memory markers for simplified setup.

Claw Hooks

The bass drum also features claw hooks that are lined with rubber spacers to protect the wood hoops from damage.

The design allows the hooks and hoops to work as one unit which prevents them from separating or rattling as you play, even on loose tunings.

Evans Drumheads

Offering superior sound and reliable durability straight out of the box, this Starclassic Maple Yesteryear shell pack comes fitted with Evans drumheads as standard.

The toms feature Evans Genera G2 2-ply clear batter heads over Genera G1 clear resonant heads and the bass drum has a Genera EQ4 clear batter head and a Tama logo resonant head.
