Linear-Drive Strainer and Super Sensitive Hi-Carbon Snappy Snare

The Tama Star Walnut snare drum features a “Linear-Drive” strainer, a patented strainer that vastly improves control over the lever adjustment arm and deployment motion of the strainer.

Working in a true linear motion, the strainer prevents the slap of snare wires hitting the drumhead when engaged.

The Tama Star snare drum’s strainer also benefits from a ratchet system tension adjuster which prevents the snare wires from loosening while offering precise adjustments.

The snare itself is made from hi-carbon steel and features a specialised plate and winding pattern for the wire coils which gives you incredibly crisp and sensitive snare sound.

Tama Star Bearing Edge

The Tama Star Walnut snare drum benefits from the Tama Star bearing edge.

With a rounder peak than standard bearing edges and a peak position 3.5mm from the shell’s outer surface, you get more contact between the shell and drum head, resulting in better tone.

Less Is More

Knowing that every single piece of hardware attached to the shells will affect their tone and resonance, Tama took special consideration when designing the Star snare drum line to achieve optimal sound.

The Star Walnut 14” snare drum features newly designed snare drum lugs which have a streamlined look and bridge construction that minimises contact with the shell.

Furthermore, the snare drum features only 8 lugs instead of the usual 10, reducing weight on the snare drum for even more resonant tone.

Unlike the toms and bass drums which have just one, the Star snare drum features 3 air holes.

With these additional air holes, the Tama Star Walnut snare drum is able to give you brighter, dryer sound with consistent projection across all directions.

Die-Cast Hoops and Hold Tight Washers

For the Star Walnut snare’s hoops, Tamaha have used die-cast zinc. Made using injection moulded molten metal, these hoops are denser and more consistent in shape than standard triple-flanged hoops.

This larger density and improved consistency mean the snare drum can be tuned more easily and stay in tube for longer.

Die-cast hoops also provide crisp attack, increased focus and projection along with more powerful tone.

This snare drum also benefits from patented “Hold Tight” washers. Rubber rings are used on the washers, absorbing impact vibration while maintaining contact between the tension rods and the hoops, preventing the rods from loosening.
