The kit features a 4-piece configuration with 6-ply, 5mm tom shells, and a 7-ply, 6mm bass drum shell, all offering a distinct tonal warmth and beautiful resonance. Perfect for the more experienced drummer, the Tama Star Walnut brings professional sound and manufacturing quality to the hands of the modern drummer.

Walnut is renowned for its warm big thick sounding tone qualities, it is one of the more well-balanced tone woods used in drum building with highs, mids, and lows equal to each other and an overall well-rounded sound. Tama has thought of everything to try not to dull said tones, whereas other drum kits at this level have their badges screwed into the shell and big bulky metal air hole screws.
Tama's minimal shell contact technology consist of a simple airhole cap and logos are imprinted on the shell.

Bearing Edges

The very peak of the bearing edge has been rounded towards the center of the edge, 3.5mm to be exact, instead of being sharp and at the very out edge like other brands, this allows for great head-to-shell contact which means you get more vibrations in the shell giving you more and more tone instantly.

Hold Tight

Hold Tight washers are designed to prevent the tension rods from loosening. They consist of a cup-shaped stainless steel washer that contains a rubber ring.
Vibration caused by striking a drum creates space between tension rods and hoops, which can cause the tension rods to loosen over time. The rubber rings on our Hold Tight washers help absorb the impact of vibration and keep tension rods in constant contact with the hoops to prevent loosening. A fantastic idea if you go for that lower register and find your heads, especially during a sweaty full-power gig, to be flappy and growly after 3 songs, this almost eliminates the issue.

Hoops

Star drums feature die-cast zinc hoops which are denser and have a more consistent shape due to their manufacturing process of being molded and not bent into shape like triple-flanged hoops.

They also provide a much more articulated attack with lots more projection and a focused tone. Die-cast also make tuning a lot easier due to their density and consistency.

Shells

A generation of furniture makers has favored Walnut for their reliable solidness and long-term stability. As a drum shell material, Walnut's distinctively warm, fat sound has long been the subject of rumor among drum tone aficionados, and the new STAR WALNUT is doubtlessly about to rekindle that discussion.

Quick Lock

For a faster setup and easy breakdown, Tama has come up with a genius idea, the Quick-Lock system. Once you have set your position, to break down you simply flick the lock switch, and away you go, no need to go around your drum kit and tighten memory locks. Rubber linings reduce vibration transference to the tom stands or floor tom legs; further isolating the drums and enhancing resonance.

Bass Drum Spurs

These spurs have been designed to absorb impact from when the bass drum is being played to achieve they have used soft high mass rubber feet, the spikes have also been separated from the spurs via a 2-piece construction and encased with rubber to again absorb shock and to add to a goal of as much resonance in the bass drum shell as possible.

Mounting System

The Super Resonant Mounting System has three points on contact, two located on the top hoop and one on the bottom hoop creating a large theoretical triangle. the two points on the batter hoop support the weight of the drum vertically and the bottom point supports the weight horizontally.

Tama designed this system to take as much stress and strain from the drum shell as possible to increase the resonance of the drum at whichever angle you choose to set up the drum, there is even a fourth point of contact on the batter hoop that comes into play if the Tom is set at a dramatic angle, Tama does think of every eventuality!

Floor Tom Legs

Legs are quite often an afterthought, even at this price range. Floor toms are positioned vertically and once struck that downward force travels through the drum and into the solid floor which can kill all resonance and tone.

Tama has designed hollow rubber feet which help absorb the downward force which not only makes the drum a lot more comfortable to play but mainly reserves the drum's natural resonance, sustain, and tone.

Drum Heads

To top things off in style the drums come complete with Remo drum heads, Coated Ambassador on the batter side, and Clear Ambassador on the resonant. Bass drums have the ever-so-popular Coated Powerstroke 3 on the batter and the stylish Fiberskyn Powerstroke 3 on the front.
