Tama have designed the bearing edges of the Tama Star Walnut to have a rounder peak than that found on their other kits.

This rounded peak is set at 3.5mm from the shell’s outer surface to provide more contact between the drumhead and the shell.

This design serves to allow the vibrations from the drumhead to travel through to the shell more efficiently, resulting in a responsive drum sound that delivers unimpeded tone.

Die-Cast Hoops

Providing a durable hold and easier tuning, all the toms of the Tama Star Walnut kit are fitted with Die-Cast Zinc Hoops.

Offering a more consistent shape than triple flanged hoops, die cast hoops are manufactured by injecting molten metal into moulds to ensure an even build.

In comparison, triple flanged hoops are constructed from metal plates that are bent into shape which can result in shape inconsistency that then has a detrimental impact on the tuning response.

The rubber rings within the hold tight washers help to absorb the impact of the vibration, preventing the tension rods from moving and therefore keeping them in constant contact with the hoops to prevent loosening.

Super Resonant Mounting System

This Tama Star Walnut kit features a brand new mounting concept that has been specifically designed to minimise strain on the toms when mounted.

When a rack tom is mounted it instantly comes under pressure, stress and strain which impedes the shell’s natural resonance.

To combat this, Tama have spent a lot of time and effort researching and designing their tom mounting system to ensure minimum stress on the shell and hoops to maximise natural shell resonance.

The patented Super Resonant Mounting System consists of 3 contact points; 2 on the batter hoop and 1 on the bottom hoop.

These contact points have been calculated to create the largest possible theoretical triangle on the drums to ensure supportive distribution of the weight in order to minimise stress on the shell.

The top contact points support the weight of the drum while the bottom point supports the horizontal weight harnessed when the tom is positioned.

Each contact point is fitted with a rubber stopper to prevent vibration transfer between the shell and the mounting system.

Quick-Lock Tom Brackets

The quick lock and the tom bracket are one complete device on the drum. This means that once your drums are setup in your desired position there’s no need to add extra locks or components to your kit.

All you have to do is simply slide the switch on the tom bracket to set the memory lock in place.

When the switch is slid the tom bracket separates into two parts with the lower “memory lock” portion remaining on the tom mount or floor leg.

Negating the need for drum keys or extra components, a quick slide of the switch locks your positioning in place allowing you to set and forget your ideal placement.

Then the next time you come to set up you achieve consistent positioning with speed and ease.

Offering a hidden acoustic benefit, the quick-lock tom brackets also feature a rubber lining that helps to reduce vibration transfer from the shell to the tom mount / tom legs, which isolates the drums and enhances shell resonance.

Hollow Tip Legs

The floor tom legs included with the Tama Star Walnut kit feature a special hollow tip, again designed to improve the natural resonance of the drum.

Made from a soft rubber material, the feet of the tom legs help to absorb vertical striking impact to prevent vibration transfer which helps to maintain a natural floor tom sustain.

2 Piece Spurs

Featuring soft, high-mass rubber feet created to absorb the horizontal impact imparted by the bass drum beater, Tama have designed their bass drum spurs to ensure tonal enhancement.

The feet feature a 2-piece construction in which the spike is separated from the rest of the spur by a rubber barrier.

The intention behind this is that the rubber absorbs the impact of the bass drum beater without transferring it to the spike, which allows the bass drum shell to vibrate and resonate more freely.

Minimal Contact Shell Hardware
