Steinberg UR242 24-bit/192 kHz USB 2.0 Audio Interface
The Steinberg UR242 is a 4 in and 2 out USB 2.0 audio interface featuring two great-sounding D-PRE microphone preamps and dspMixFx providing DSP-powered latency-free monitoring with any DAW software. It is ideal in a wide range of live and studio situations: pro studio quality at home; guitar or bass preamp live, mobile interface for stage pianos live, mobile recording and more!
The onboard SSP2 DSP chip provides a range of zero-latency FX on monitoring signals. Two renowned D-PRE preamps behind Neutrik combo inputs give transparent yet dynamic sound. Housed in a quality metal case, the UR242 gives you both fantastic sound and is robust enough to take on the move – hooked up to your notebook or iPad.
D-PRE
The D-PRE uses an inverted Darlington circuit where a total of four transistors per unit are used instead of the typical two. As a result, very low distortion can be maintained regardless of the signal level. The sonic integrity is incomparable in this class of audio interfaces and sets the UR242 apart. 192 kHz All components on the UR242 are carefully selected and implemented for full resolution of high-end audio of up to 24- bit/192 kHz. A higher sampling frequency means more samples of the audio source, resulting in better reproduction of the original sound via a superior natural audio image and ambience.
dspMixFx
The dspMixFx technology is powered by Yamaha's customdesigned SSP2 DSP chip and offers latency-free monitoring with the highly acclaimed DSP effects, including the REV-X reverb for users of any DAW software.
CC mode
The UR242 automatically switches to CC (Class Compliant) Mode and connects with the iPad through the Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit or Lightning to USB Camera Adapter, allowing you to record four channels simultaneously.

Hook up to your UR242
The UR242 is a highly portable production solution that offers a huge range of recording and production capabilities to let you record and produce music at studio quality while on the move.
Because the UR242 uses a USB 2.0 connector, it's compatible with virtually any PC or Mac available today, while iPad connectivity lets you hook up to audio apps running on your Apple tablet. All inputs and outputs deliver up to 24-bit/192 kHz audio quality. Two combo connectors feature the acclaimed DPRE mic preamp, while two additional input jacks let you plug in just about any other type of audio equipment.
The UR242 also integrates a powerful DSP chip running an advanced FX suite comprising reverbs, compressors and virtual guitar amps that let you monitor at zero latency. The UR242 balances I/O throughput with portability and DSP power to offer the functionality of a full-blown studio. An advanced portable production solution
The UR242 offers musicians and producers far more than just a portable I/O device, or even an audio interface; the UR242 is a mobile production solution. That's because it combines fantastic-sounding I/O and durability with advanced DSP-based FX that can be used with your DAW software, and that at a price point that is still easily affordable. Cubase integrated When running with Cubase, the UR242 does away with the extra layer between DAW and audio hardware: no additional virtual mixer apps are required!
All aspects of I/O handling and DSP management are handled directly from within Cubase. Once your UR242 interface has been installed, Cubase detects the device and automatically embeds it into the Cubase production environment. With Steinberg's next-generation True Integrated Monitoring technology, Cubase manages all audio streams with perfect sync, allowing for a highly efficient workflow that boosts productivity to new levels.
The UR242 features direct integration into Cubase with dedicated windows and views that only appear when they are connected, providing full control of the hardware's functionality from within Cubase itself. This not only includes the Cubase Mixer extension for the Sweet Spot Morphing Channel Strip and REV-X reverb DSP effects, but almost all hardware functionality.
Full integration with any DAW with dspMixFx
The UR series integrates seamlessly — as you'd expect — with Cubase, yet also with just about any DAW out there. Just like the 19" rack model in the UR range, the UR242 offers latencyfree monitoring with DSP-powered FX thanks to the onboard SSP2 DSP chip and the latest dspMixFx technology. This gives you a fully integrated DSP-based monitoring setup wherever you are and with whichever DAW you use. Crossing the streams Latency-free monitor mixes with DSP effects are managed alongside mixes played back through your DAW of choice via the included dspMixFx mixing application, combining hard disk audio data and live streams being recorded at the same time.
The monitor mix can utilize the DSP capability for an outstanding sound that you will feel extremely comfortable performing to. The effects can be included in the signal recorded to the input track but the signal can, of course, also be recorded dry with no FX or bypassed completely. DSP power Powered by Yamaha's custom-designed SSP2 DSP chip, you now can enjoy the benefits of dspMixFx technology, which offers latency-free monitoring together with the highly acclaimed REV-X reverb, the Sweet Spot Morphing Channel Strip and Guitar Amp Classics for users of any DAW software.
When using Cubase all the advanced monitoring capabilities are fully integrated into the application's GUI by True Integrated Monitoring technology. Guitar Amp Classics Guitar Amp Classics are guitar amp effects that make extensive use of advanced Yamaha modeling technology. Four amp types with different sonic characteristics are provided.
CLEAN
This amp type is optimized for clean tones, effectively simulating the tight brilliance of transistor amplifiers. The tonal character of this amp model provides an ideal sonic foundation for recording with multi-effects. It also features built-in chorus and vibrato effects. Full-on integration The advanced driver architecture required to use all of the many UR242 features has been engineered and exhaustively tested on the ASIO, Core Audio and WDM standards. The drivers themselves have been designed to ensure full reliability for all audio streams and MIDI data at even the highest quality settings. Quick and easy installation is guaranteed. For newcomers to music production who do not yet own dedicated music production software, the UR242 includes the special Cubase AI version for audio recording, composition and production.
It uses the same advanced music technology as Steinberg's renowned Cubase range of professional music production applications. In common with its senior siblings in the UR series– the UR44, UR28M and UR828 – the UR242 incorporates a range of special features that integrate their audio hardware seamlessly into their Cubase production environment. These include True Integrated Monitoring, automated setup procedures for effortless input and output channel assignment, custom views and windows, and much more.
