Presenting an unparalleled fusion of sonic flexibility and uncompromising sound quality, the IRON emerges as a Mastering Compressor engineered to fulfil the exacting standards sought by mastering industry professionals. Boasting a robust build, onboard passive EQ, and an array of remarkable features, this compressor stands as a testament to SPL's dedication to crafting audio tools of exceptional calibre.
Beneath its sleek exterior, the IRON harnesses the power of six distinct rectifier circuits, each meticulously designed around different diodes and characterized by unique transient response qualities. Switching between settings such as germanium and silicon unveils distinct tonal flavours and response curves, enabling users to explore a rich palette of sonic possibilities.
Beyond its dynamic processing capabilities, the IRON incorporates two EQ curve presets, serving as the final touch for adding a subtle polish to any mix. The AirBass mode offers a gentle 2dB boost to high and low frequencies, imparting a delightful sense of sparkle. Meanwhile, the Tape Roll-Off mode engages high and low cuts, sculpting the track's response in a manner reminiscent of vintage tape machines, injecting an extra layer of warmth and character.
Unleashing an array of mastering-optimized features, the IRON empowers engineers to effortlessly dial in pristine optical dynamics or venture into the realm of fat, warm, and vintage compression tones. Its sonic prowess lends a market-leading flourish to any musical material, elevating the overall listening experience to new heights.
With the introduction of the improved v2 model in late 2022, the IRON takes another leap forward. The balanced side-chain inserts with send and return ports enhance the device's connectivity options, while the inclusion of new side-chain EQ filter presets and Wathen CryoTone tubes further augment its sonic capabilities. Visually, the v2 model retains an identical faceplate but can be easily identified by the presence of a barcode sticker on the rear of the rack.
Within the signal path of each channel lies a pair of twin-triode tubes, carefully selected for their intentionally differing response curves. This unique configuration, according to SPL, sets the stage for the IRON's exceptional transparency and musicality, allowing music to retain its liveliness even at higher levels, ensuring a captivating and dynamic listening experience.
An embodiment of SPL's renowned design philosophy, the IRON incorporates the proprietary 120V operating voltage, a hallmark of many esteemed SPL products. This design trait guarantees optimal headroom and an incredibly low noise floor, setting the stage for processing well-mixed tracks that require a volume boost during the mastering stage. With its unrivalled capabilities, the IRON stands as the ultimate tool for increasing loudness while preserving the integrity of the dynamics.
In essence, the IRON Mastering Compressor from SPL is a pinnacle of audio engineering, providing mastering professionals with unmatched sonic flexibility and the ability to meet the highest standards of sound quality. From its robust build to its remarkable features, this compressor embodies a true mastery of its craft, making it an indispensable asset in the pursuit of sonic perfection.
