Beech and Maple

Whereas most shell packs feature a consistent material choice across all drums in the kit, the Sonor SQ2 lets you pick and choose the construction of each individual shell.

For this Sonor shell pack we’ve selected beech wood for the bass drum and floor toms and maple for the rack toms.

The bass drum is constructed from 12 plies of 100% beech and is designed in what Sonor call a “heavy shell” option.

The bass drum shell is 8mm thick and the plies are separated into 4 layers of 3 ply, each of which are 2mm thick.

These 4 layers of 2mm / 3ply sheets come together to deliver an 8mm / 12 ply bass drum.

The floor toms are also crafted from pure beech and consist of 3 layers of 3 ply / 3mm sheets to create a finished shell that is a medium 9 ply / 6mm thick.

The two rack toms are made from 100% maple and are thin 9 ply shells consisting of three 3 ply layers (2mm, 1mm and 2mm) resulting in a shell that is 5mm thick.

Known for it’s pronounced highs and mids, but specifically for its great low-end punch, beech offers a sensitive and focused tone.

The perfect choice for creating a punchy bass drum tone filled with robust bottom end weight, and floor toms that produce thunderous projection, beech was the obvious choice for these parts of the kit.

Meanwhile maple is characterised by its even highs and mids combined with slightly warm lows to deliver brilliantly all-purpose tone.

A great choice for creating contrast with the beech floor toms, these maple rack toms deliver piercing projection and warm tone to fill out the kit sound perfectly.

All of the hardware on this Sonor SQ2 5-piece kit is finished in a sleek black chrome.

The low contact Sonor bridge style lugs offer instantly recognisable style whilst maintaining minimal contact with the shell to ensure optimum resonance.

Both 10” and 12” rack toms are fitted with the Sonor Total Acoustic Resonance (TAR) Mounting System which has been specifically created to deliver vibration free mounting.

This TAR mounting system connects to the toms via 4 lug points preventing it from touching the wooden drum shell.

This separation between the mount and the shell prevents interference with the drums natural vibration, resulting in toms that deliver pure tone and warm sustain.

One of the great innovative features of Sonor SQ2 drums are the Easy Grip Adjustment Screws on the bass drum which offer super easy and convenient keyless tuning of your bass drum.

Simply twist the screw to tighten or loosen the bass drum heads to achieve your ideal kick drum tone without the need for a drum key.

All of the toms are fitted with black triple flanged hoops and feature square head tension rods for clean and consistent head tuning.

The toms of this Sonor SQ2 Drum System drum kit are fitted with medium coated white batter heads and medium clear resonant heads.

The bass drum comes complete with a Powerstroke 3 Coated White resonant head which features the black Sonor Logo and black SQ2 logo.
