From Dream to Drum

Sonor and Benny Greb first started working on this signature snare in 2010 with the goal of creating a snare that’s as versatile and musical as Benny himself.

Combining a blend of tradition and innovation, filled with passion and strict attention to detail, this snare is stunning in both style and sound.

Initially a 13” x 5.75” snare may seem like a strange choice because most snares feature a standard 5", 5.5” or 6.5” depth.

Benny selected a 5.75” snare drum because of his experience using a wide variety of different snares in various sizes.

His two most favoured snares were a pair of Sonor SQ2 drums, both of which were 13” and had a thin beech construction.

However, one was 6.5” and the other 5” and Benny says he found himself switching between the two often.

While the 5” offered a better response in higher tunings and delivered wonderful delicate ghost notes, the 6.5” provided a more open tone and superior body.

Benny, therefore, chose a depth that’s between the two in order to achieve the best of both options.

The result is a handmade snare that is easy to tune, delivers fat, funky tone, clear highs and has a great snare wire response.

Beech Beauty

Delivering the vintage style of older snare drums, this Benny Greb signature snare is constructed from beech to deliver a wonderfully warm, transparent tone.

The shell is a thin 9 ply / 5mm thick and as a result produces beautifully resonant tone, while the beech wood offers its characteristic pronounced highs and mids and luscious punchy low end.

Producing a superb combination of sensitive response and focused projection, this is a versatile snare that has a wide tuning range and is capable of fulfilling the most diverse demands.

The snare comes fitted with square head tension rods and is framed with 2.3mm steel Power Hoops to deliver clean tuning and crisp attack.
