The Vintage Flat for Stratocaster uses the same hand ground alnico 5 rod magnets and heavy Formvar mag wire as our Vintage Flat Strat pickup, but is made RWRP (reverse wind, reverse polarity) so that, when combined with the neck or bridge pickups, will cancel the hum and produce that classic in-between Strat quack. On its own, it will give you the same bright, crisp tone that you get from the standard wound model.
Combine with an SSL-2 in the neck and bridge for a complete, balanced set. Aside from the flat pole pieces, we use the same materials to build these as we do for all of our vintage Fender style single coil pickups. We start by assembling the bobbins with the proper colour and thickness of hand filed Forbon flatwork and alnico 5 magnets. We then lacquer our bobbins just as it was done during Fenders Golden Age. This pickup is wax potted and comes complete with waxed and tinned cloth pushback hook-up wires and traditional keyed bottom plate.
