All New AAX Crash
NAMM 2019 saw the unveiling of Sabian's revamped AAX cymbal series and the release of a completely new logo.
The centre of much controversy, this new Sabian logo was loved by some and loathed by others.
Whatever your view on the new logo its definitely in keeping with the Sabian Unbound ethos of not following the crowd.
Aside from the new logo, the AAX series was transformed to deliver a more streamlined range of sounds with less popular models being delisted, successes like the Aero, Freq, X-Plosion and Omni remaining and new crashes, hi-hats and rides being introduced.
The new AAX models also feature a completely new hammering process to provide a sound filled with smoother more refined highs and increased tonal complexity.
Sabian 22008XC AAX 20 inch Medium Crash Cymbal Key Features:
- Larger Raw Bell
- New AAX Hammering Style
- Slightly Darker Tone
- Brighter Highs, More Complex Lows
- Wider Band of Frequency
For The Individuals
The introduction of a new logo and an overhaul of the AAX range serves to highlight a new ethos within the Sabian camp.
Promoting individuality, uniqueness and uncompromising creativity, the new Sabian AAX series serves to encourage drummers to find their own sound and follow their own path.
Designed using the latest manufacturing technologies, Sabian have put their AAX line squarely at the centre of their forward-thinking pursuit of innovative sound.
Created for those who want to shun the crowd and go their own way, the AAX series offers drummers a variety of sounds to help them find and build their own unique voice.
If you're searching for your next musical move; your own future sound. Look no further than Sabian AAX.
New Hammering
One of the key features of the new AAX cymbals is the introduction of a completely new AAX hammering style.
Utilising a larger, rounder peen, this new hammering process results in a crash cymbal with a much more visibly hammered surface.
In addition to the aesthetic changes, the hammering also helps to expand the frequency response of the crash cymbal to deliver increased highs whilst also changing the character of the lows.
The result is an AAX crash with more bright highs and slightly darker lows for a sound that is well represented across the frequency range.
Providing the bright attacking cut needed to pierce through dense mixes, this 20 inch crash also delivers superb depth of tone for a cymbal sound with lots of substance.
Bigger Bell
The Sabian AAX 20 inch Medium Crash has a larger bell than usually seen on crashes this size.
This raw finished large bell serves to inject a chunkier sound to the crash for added weight and impact.
Incorporating a robustness to the crash sound, the use of the bigger bell adds a meatier aspect to the sound to deliver a full tone filled with substance.
Rather than offering a sound that simply cuts through the mix then fades, this crash delivers brightness combined with punchy projection filled with weighty impact.
The result is a crash that's ideal for situations when you need more added emphasis to your musical punctuations.
Summary
Combining a new hammering style with a larger raw bell, this medium crash offers a superb range of versatile tone.
Blending bright cutting impact with full, weighty darkness, this crash combines attack with substance to deliver a chunky overall sound.
