The VideoMic NTG installs the same annular line tube technology as the NTG5 (Rodes new broadcast microphone), which features acoustic perforations along length the of the microphone rather than the traditional linear slots found on current shotgun and on-camera microphones. This forward-thinking engineering gives the Rode VideoMic NTG an unparalleled clarity, and a natural crystal sound that is uncommon for a microphone of this size. This mic is the ultimate on-camera microphone that is in-line with some of the world's best shotgun mics, with a amazing flat frequency response, extremely low self-noise and highly directional supercardioid polar pattern.

Full of Features

The switchable high-pass filter (at 75Hz to 150Hz) means you can cut out those irksome low frequency background noises such as air traffic, blowing wind or other environmental noise. It also features a high frequency boost to pick out detail and clarity when on a shoot, especially when the mic has a wind shield installed. It has a switchable pad (-20db) when recording low sound applications, and just when it couldn't get any better, it has a switchable safety channel that records a separate channel (-20db) just in case your original recording is clipping.

The distinct gain control on the rear of the mic delivers everything from headphone output level to mic to line control providing excellent flexibility and improving DSLR sound ambience. The Auto-power function brings the mic to life when the camera is powered up, meaning you'll never miss a take and turns the mic off when the camera is powered down or the mic is unplugged to save battery life making this a useful feature on the Rode VideoMic NTG.

The rechargable lithium-ion battery gives this mic more than thirty hours of recording. This is charged via USB-C (charged up to full in two hours), this means continuous recording is available with a power pack. An auto-sensing 3.5mm output automatically switches between TRS and TRRS to accommodate both cameras and adaptor cables. The mic features a useful dB limit warning light indicating when the internal preamp is clipping, particularly handy when recording sound at high volumes. In situations like this, the -20dB pad can be swiftly brought in to attenuate the incoming signal.

USB Potential

The mic has full USB capabilities which means it can be detached easily, and with its USB-C output can be plugged into a smartphone, tablet or computer. This turns it into a studio-quality mic excellent for desk top applications such as pod casting, gaming, live-streaming and voice overs. Headphones can be plugged into the 3.5mm socket so that you can monitor your recording whilst using the USB output.
