A Fitting Tribute to a Modern Guitar Hero

For the past two and a half years, John has worked tirelessly in close-collaboration with guitar maker Paul Reed Smith in the design and development of the Silver Sky Tungsten: vintage-inspired guitar that is both familiar, and also uniquely PRS.

Vintage-Design

Based on both PRS and John's favourite elements from vintage instruments that they own which are dated between 1963 and 1964, the PRS Silver Sky is a fantastic premium-grade guitar that both fans of Mayer and guitar enthusiasts alike will appreciate.

Built for Comfort

Featuring that familiar body shape constructed from lightweight Alder, a vintage-style neck, vintage-style PRS locking tuners, vintage-style tremolo bridge that's setup flush to the body, three specially-designed single coil pickups, a rosewood fretboard with those iconic PRS bird inlays, an organic bone nut, PRS acoustic-style frets (slightly smaller than what's normally found on a PRS electric), and even a case to keep it safe when not in use, the PRS Silver Sky would make a great addition to any guitarists collection.

For the Silver Sky, PRS and John Mayer have certainly made things their own - even the familiar PRS Headstock has been inverted to better suit Mayer's playing style and offer superior tuning stability. In addition to this, whilst the tuners are of a traditional vintage-style, closed-back variety, they are actually home to PRS's locking mecahnism, which makes re-stringing much faster, as well as helping to keep the guitar in tune.

Comfortable to Play

As soon as you pick the PRS Silver Sky up you will realise that it's been designed to offer the maximum amount of comfort and playability. The neck has been constructed to combine the best features of both '63 and '64 guitars that Mayer and Paul Reed Smith own, and feels like it belongs on that favourite guitar you keep going back to.

Combined with the neck is an all-new take on the PRS DC3 model's body. Tweaked over and over until it was to Mayer's liking, the body on the PRS Silver Sky is as comfortable and lightweight as you could wish for, and even features that trademark PRS Scoop which allows more comfortable access to the guitar's upper frets.

Vintage-Style Modern Pickups

Designed specifically for the PRS Silver Sky, these 635JM single coil pickups offer you a vintage-style sound, tweaked for the modern performer. Featuring a higher signal-to-noise ration than traditional single coils, the 635JM's provide less hum an noise than you'd usually find, and they also maintain a musical high-end without any of the usual "ice-picky" sound that vintage pickups are sometimes guilty of.
