Taylor 512e Grand Concert Electro-Acoustic Guitar

With the 512e, Taylor have managed to produce a seductively sweet-voiced acoustic guitar. In taking a Grand Concert body shape, but afixing the neck to the body at the 12th fret rather than the 14th, the guitar's tone sounds wonderfully aged right out of the case.

Cedar Top, Mahogany Back/Sides and High Grade Electronics

Taylor's Grand Concert body shape is relatively small and comfortable compared to it's big brother (the Grand Auditorium), and has been designed specifically with acoustic fingerstyle players in mind. The tapered waist design helps keep the guitar's overtones in check, resulting in a sound that's both clear and tonally balanced in a comfortable-to-play package.

Exquisite Tonewoods

The 512e combines a Western Red Cedar top with a Tropical Mahogany Back & Sides which combine to yield a surprisingly loud voice from a smaller guitar. Cedar is a less-dense wood than spruce, and delivers a natural amount of compression to your playing, ensuring that soft, finger-picked sections sound wonderful and expressive, whilst at the same time imposing a ceiling on high-volume levels driven by an aggressive attack.

Mahogany has been a popular tonewood for many decades now, having been used in many old-school acoustic recordings ranging from blues to folk to slack key. As a tonewood, Mahogany displays a lot of thick mid-range character which blooms with plenty of harmonic overtones, producing a sound with plenty of girth. When combined with a Cedar top, the resulting sound is suitable for a broad range of players and musical styles, delivering a balanced tone, nice dynamic range and a healthy serving of overtones.
