Tambourines

There are several types of tambourines, including hand-held, mounted, and frame tambourines. Hand-held tambourines are versatile and commonly used in various musical genres, while mounted tambourines can be attached to a drum set or percussion rig. Frame tambourines can have a single row or double row of jingles, with double rows offering a fuller sound. When choosing a tambourine, consider the style of music you'll be playing and whether you'll need it for hand-held use or to integrate into a percussion setup. 

To play a tambourine properly, hold it in your non-dominant hand and use your dominant hand to strike or shake it. You can create different sounds by hitting the tambourine with your fingers, palm, or fist, and by shaking it to make the jingles sound. Techniques like the shake roll, thumb roll, and various striking patterns can add rhythmic complexity and texture to your performance. 

To maintain and care for your tambourine, keep it in a cool, dry place to prevent the frame from warping and the jingles from rusting. Clean the tambourine regularly by wiping down the frame and jingles with a soft, dry cloth. If the drumhead (if applicable) gets dirty, use a damp cloth with mild soap to gently clean it. Regularly check for any loose jingles or tuning screws, and tighten them as needed to ensure optimal sound and performance.
