Frame Drums

To tune a frame drum with an adjustable tuning system, use the tensioning hardware to tighten or loosen the drumhead until the desired pitch is achieved. For non-tunable frame drums, you can adjust the tension by gently warming the drumhead near a heat source, such as a lamp or heater, to tighten it. Regular maintenance includes keeping the drumhead clean and dry, avoiding extreme temperatures and humidity, and periodically checking the frame and hardware for any signs of wear. If the drumhead becomes too loose or damaged, it may need to be replaced. 

The proper technique for playing a frame drum varies depending on the type of drum and musical style. Generally, frame drums are held with one hand gripping the frame and the other hand used for striking the drumhead. Basic strokes include the bass tone, produced by striking the centre of the drumhead with the palm or fingers, and the edge or high tone, created by striking the drumhead near the edge. Practice different hand positions and striking techniques to develop control and a variety of sounds. Traditional techniques may also involve finger rolls, slaps, and shakes to add rhythmic complexity.
