CHOOSING YOUR DRUM KIT

Commonly, a complete drum kit contains five pieces: a snare, three toms, and a bass drum. These are known as shells, cymbals then complete the kit, usually, hi-hat, crash, and ride cymbals, but many will add an additional china and splash.

Some more experienced drummers prefer to buy shell packs instead of a full kit, to better customize their setups with their own personal combination of favorite cymbals, snare, and hardware.

3-piece Drum Kits are also available and, due to their smaller size, good for beginners just starting to learn or homes where space may be an issue. Many pros also favor a compact drum kit, from jazz drummers to those in lo-fi indie rock bands. Not to mention the obvious: 3-piece kits are also usually much cheaper!
