Orange Getaway Driver, giving you a full, awesome sound of a retro 70s amp all in a compact pedal.
Orange Getaway Driver – Amp in A Box
Orange Amplification have taken everything they love about 70s tube amps, added in some tweaks and mods and packed it all inside the Getaway Driver pedal.
Great 70s Cranked and Modded Amp Sound
When designing the Getaway Driver, Orange voiced it on a range of vintage amplifiers including the 1972 “Pics Only” Orange Amplifier modified by their technical director, Ade Emsley.
The Orange Getaway Driver pedal’s gain structure Is generated using single-ended JEFET circuitry in Class A, just like an actual valve amp. The input buffer, output buffer and Cab Sim are handled by use of op-amps, using a charge pump to give you 18v of headroom.
The Getaway Driver actually uses the same transparent, buffered output as used in the Orange Kongpressor and Two Stroke pedals.
When running at 9 volts, the Getaway Driver gives you the character of EL84 valves while 12 volts gives you more of an EL34 style tone.
How to Use the Orange Getaway Driver Pedal
You can use this pedal to add some fantastically vintage vibe to any amplifier but it really shines when used with an amplifier’s clean channel; and even ones with a bright cap.
It can also deliver a great clean boost with low Gain and high Volume pushing your amp over the edge to get that classic overdrive sound.
Usability is kept extremely simple with just three dials; Vol, Bite and Gain.
You can use the Gain knob to adjust the gain to your liking with lower levels giving a cleaner more defined crunch while increasing the adds more filthy 70s tone.
With the Bite knob, you can tailor your sound by bringing in more bass or treble while the Vol knob allows you to adjust the overall volume.
Useful Cab Simulator Output – Record and Gig Without an Amp
Using the cab sim output you can connect the Getaway Driver directly to an audio interface in the studio or the PA when performing live.
Modelled on a G12H30 with a 30 Watt Celestion speaker as used in 1970s Orange cabs, you can get perfect recordings or live sound at your gigs all without having to take along an amp.
Also, when using this output, it’ll remain active when you’re bypassing the pedal so you can use other pedals (such as fuzz or distortion), amplifier preamps (via their FX send) with the Cab Sim alone.
You can even plug your headphones here to enjoy a full amp sound privately – perfect when you want to properly rock out at night but don’t want to annoy the neighbours.
Vintage Amp You Can Fit in The Palm of Your Hand
With the Orange Getaway Driver pedal you’ve got some great options – turn any amp into a filthy, modded and cranked 70s amp or get their full amp sound without an amp at all by plugging directly into the PA, an audio interface for recording or connecting your headphones.
Great for live performance, recording in the studio or practising and working out new tunes with your headphones, get the 70s amp sound in a box you can take anywhere in the palm of your hand.
