The GPCX1AE is a great example of the Martin X Series guitars. A great selection of woods combined with the usual, excellent guitar building skills that we’ve come to expect from Martin.

Spruce, used for the GPCX1AE’s top is something of a tonewood standard in modern guitar building. It has great qualities making it perfect for use as a resonating wood in guitars such as its broad dynamic range and crisp articulation making it suitable for all styles of acoustic guitar playing.

Using sturdy mortise and tenon joint construction, a neck of Rust Birch laminate joins the body while FSC Certified Richlite has been used to craft an incredibly smooth, durable and playable fretboard.

Richlite is a fantastic material; water-resistant with low moisture absorption and most importantly, it is environmentally friendly and with Martin ever pioneering sustainability and responsible guitar building it is a great addition.

Quality Hardware

FSC Certified, environmentally friendly Richlite is used again for the bridge which, combined with the compensated white TUSQ saddle provides optimum transfer of vibrations from the strings into the guitar.

TUSQ is a brilliant material, further offering fantastic resonance transfer with similar traits to traditional bone and actual tusk but without the pitfalls found in the naturally occurring grain of those materials, and considerably less controversial when compared to tusk.

Chrome enclosed gear machine heads offer precise, fast and stable tuning.

Discreet Yet Powerful Electronics

When it came to amplifying the sound of the GPCX1AE, Martin wanted electronics that would do justice to the incredible acoustic sound of the guitar while not detracting from its beautiful and classic design.

To achieve this goal, Martin selected Fishman Sonitone electronics. The Sonitone system provides an under saddle pickup which delivers great reproduction of the nuances in your playing.

The onboard preamp itself can be found, discreetly mounted inside the soundhole. The preamp’s Tone control allows you to adjust the amount of treble in your sound while a second control allows adjustment of the volume.

Premium Touches

Being a Martin guitar, the GPCX1AE has a number of features to enhance its look, feel and sound.

Spruce has been used for the X style scalloped bracing which results in an extremely sturdy build and enhanced resonance of the guitar’s sound.

To improve playability of the neck, the GPCX1AE makes use of Martin’s high performance taper. This results in a much sleeker feel as your fretting hand moves up towards the body allowing for faster, more comfortable playing.

A cutaway in the body of the guitar makes it easier to reach those higher frets; great for solos and adventurous melodies.

To finish up, the top and neck have been hand rubbed adding that extra personal touch from Martin’s guitar builders.
