Professional and amateur musicians around the globe have valued LATIN PERCUSSION instruments for decades as the finest percussion instruments in the world.

The company's history began in 1956 with Martin Cohen, a young engineer from the Bronx who discovered his love of Latin music in the jazz clubs of New York. He was so captivated by the sound and energy of these rhythms that he decided to get his own bongos, but this failed due to trade embargoes that made it impossible to import high-quality instruments from Cuba at the time. Without further ado, Cohen used his technical know-how to research and develop his own. The result soon became known as "the best bongos the world has ever seen."

A few years later, in 1964, he founded LATIN PERCUSSION (LP) and began supplying bongos, cowbells and other instruments to musicians in New York's Latin nightclubs, asking for their opinions. This close connection and the exchange of experiences with the artists* of the Latin music scene contributed and still contributes significantly to the success story of the LP brand. To this day, they are an integral part of the company's philosophy: the demands of the musicians come first.
