The Ultra Max guitar follows the same smaller concept as the Ultra Swede but with a slightly larger proportioned body made of mahogany, topped with a thick custom-carved flame maple top. The mahogany set neck is joined to the body using a mortise and tenon neck joint with a 25.5” scale length and is equipped with Hagstrom's H-Expander truss rod and Resinator fingerboard for added stability and playability.
The Ultra Max's fast and comfortable neck is paired with a set of Custom 60 Alnico-5 pickups, featuring eloquent Aluminum brushed covers, that provide a cutting voice that the instrument demands. These specially wound pickups utilize Nylon coated wire paired with an Alnico 5 magnet, which is unmistakably familiar to the Custom 58, but with a mightier punch and hotter sizzle.
Each pickup can be independently controlled via a volume control, which features Hagstrom’s standard R/C circuit for cleaner tones. A single master tone control features a dual coil-split, using a push/pull configuration, allowing players to easily switch between full humbucker to spanky single-coil tones in a heartbeat.
The Ultra Max combines the power, sustain, clarity, and attack of the Ultra Swede with an updated tonal palette and additional flexibility, comfort, and playability. With its longer 25.5” scale length, the Ultra Max can easily handle drop tunings, making it a versatile instrument that is perfect for any player.
