The Hagstrom Ultra Max has a slightly larger proportioned mahogany body with a thick custom-carved flame maple top while sharing the same smaller concept as the Ultra Swede. The body is joined to a mahogany set neck using a mortise and tenon neck joint, featuring Hagstrom's H-Expander truss rod and Resinator fingerboard. The sleek and ultra-comfortable fast neck is complemented by a pair of Custom 60 Alnico-5 pickups with elegant brushed aluminium covers, delivering a cutting voice that this instrument demands.
The specially wound Custom 60 humbucking pickups of the Ultra Max use Nylon coated wire paired with an Alnico 5 magnet, similar to the Custom 58, but with a mightier punch and hotter sizzle.
Each pickup is controlled by an independent volume control featuring Hagstrom's standard R/C circuit for cleaner tones. A single master tone control has a dual coil-split, using a push/pull configuration that allows players to switch between full humbucker and spanky single-coil tones quickly.
The Ultra Max combines the power, sustain, clarity, and attack of the Ultra Swede with an updated tonal pallet and additional flexibility, comfort, and playability. With its longer 25.5” scale length, the Ultra Max can handle drop tunings with ease.
