Constructing the Gretsch Honey Dipper
Gretsch’s Honey Dipper has a bell brass body which houses an Ampli-Sonic biscuit-bridge cone which has been hand spun from 99% pure aluminium. The resulting sound is that classic, sharp tone of a single-cone resonator.
A Maple neck is joined to the body at the 12th fret and features a Padauk fretboard with simple white dot position markers and 19 frets.
The large medium-V shape profile to the neck Is comfortable to hold and adds is another element of the Honey Dipper’s vintage authenticity.
A Classic Look from Yesteryear
Not only does the Honey Dipper resonator sound like a guitar from years past, it looks like one too.
At the top of the neck is a 1930s Gretsch 3x3 headstock featuring a paddle-shaped silhouette that has been capped with pearloid with truss-rod cover to match. To top it off, it even holds a period accurate Gretsch logo.
On the body of the Gretsch G9201, the cone cover plate features a beautiful cut out poinsettia design which is elegantly complemented by twin segmented f-holes.
High Quality Hardware
Up on that 1930s headstock is a set of six Grover Sta-Tite tuners, allowing for quick, precise and extremely secure tuning. They are completed by black buttons, furthering that antique effect.
On the body, there’s a biscuit bridge of hard Maple with an Ebony and Maple saddle, while at the top of the neck you’ll find a bone nut, aligning your strings perfectly while aiding sustain and a natural brightness in your sound.
Get the Old Timey Sound and Look
With its resonance and natural reverb, the Honey Dipper has a really bright and energetic sound.
Finished in a weathered Pump House Roof colouring, along with all its vintage appointments, the Honey Dipper certainly looks the part too.
A great example of the quality instruments available in the Gretsch Roots Collection, the G9201 Honey Dipper looks great, has amazing sound to back it up and comes in at a really nice price point.
