Gretsch Brooklyn Shell Pack

Brooklyn is where it all began for Gretsch. First appearing as a small music shop making banjos, drums and tambourines in Brooklyn, New York in 1883 the Gretsch company moved in 1916, thanks to its rapid growth, to a 10-story building at 60 Broadway Brooklyn. This is where it all started for this legendary company. That’s why Gretsch shares an inseparable legacy with the city and it’s reflected in this series of drum kits.

Individuality of Tone

First introduced in 2012, Gretsch Brooklyn drums are USA-made and have a sound that is immediately recognisable. They have a distinctive personality to their tone with a massive, full, thudding, powerful sound that has a deep richness. A combination of vintage warmth, a wide spread of tone and good projection, these kits may not have the same focus as other Gretsch kits but they definitely have a comfort to their sound that is hard to ignore.

6ply Maple / Poplar Shells

The Gretsch Brooklyn offers an attention-grabbing tone thanks to its 6ply construction. Each shell is built using a blend of North American maple and poplar. Known for its well-balanced even tone across all frequencies, maple provides a great all-purpose sound suited to all types of music. Maple boasts a good amount of high and mid frequencies combined with a warm low end. This is complemented perfectly by the soft highs and mids of poplar, which also has a boosted low-end warmth for a smooth, even tone. The result of this combination is a kit that has a lusciously deep spread of tone.

The shells are finished off with Gretsch’s signature 30 degree bearing edges for a truly vintage tone. As with all USA-made Gretsch drums, the interior of the Brooklyn shells is finished with the classic Gretsch Silver Sealer. Although the formula for this sealer is kept strictly secret, Gretsch believe it adds marked improvement to the overall sound of the drum shells, adding further to that classic Gretsch sound.

Contemporary Hardware

For the Brooklyn range of drum kits, Gretsch have utilised modern design and technology to offer a contemporary hardware build. The toms and snare of the Brooklyn drum kit feature Gretsch’s “302” 3mm thick double flanged steel hoops. Reminiscent of the old “stick chopper” single flanged hoops found on vintage Gretsch kits, the 302 hoops sit somewhere between triple-flanged and diecast hoops. Thicker than the old single flanged options for a more robust, modern cross stick sound, Gretsch’s 302 hoops offer a more open tone that diecast hoops, providing enhanced ambient overtones to the shell sound.

The rack tom of the Gretsch Brooklyn kit comes fitted with a straight-sided GTS tom mount and G9025 bracket for secure and stable tom positioning. The floor tom features G4825 brackets with 12.7mm diameter legs for a strong and stable playing set up. The kit also comes complete with a GTH-SLC single tom holder for mounting the rack tom securely to a cymbal stand.

It’s also worth mentioning that the snare features a Gretsch Lightning Throwoff with a smooth action for precise positioning of the snare wires to achieve the exact snare response you require.

Finishing Touches

Each shell of the Gretsch Brooklyn series comes with a distinctive internal shell label that identifies the drum shell model number and serial number, adding a sense of individuality to each kit. A classy attention to detail.

The 20” undrilled bass drum of the Gretsch Brooklyn is finished with natural satin bass drum hoops that perfectly frame the bass drum, adding a beautiful contrast of colour against the satin Emerald Green finish of the shell.

All the shells of the Gretsch Brooklyn kit are adorned with aluminium round badges featuring a traditional looking Gretsch logo - a definite nod to the history of the company.

The whole drum kit is fitted with Remo drumheads. The snare and toms feature Coated Gretsch Permatone heads and the bass has a Coated Powerstroke Permatone batter and a Remo White Permatone reso with black 12:00 Gretsch logo.

Satin Style

The shells have a rich, British racing green colour and have a hint of the natural wood grain coming through for an overall classic aesthetic.
