First introduced in 1935, the Gretsch Broadkaster series quickly became one of the world’s most revered drum sets. Its thin shell construction worked to create a full, deep, robust punchy tone that was well loved by drummers of all genres. The reintroduction of the Broadkaster range sees the maintenance of the classic tone associated with the original kits while using advanced modern drum-making techniques to further enhance the dynamic response and sonic presence of the classic Broadkaster sound.

“That Great Gretsch Sound”

Made using the original formula of a 3 ply blend of North American Maple and Poplar, the Gretsch Broadkaster has a super thin shell. The drums feature two outer plies of maple with one ply of poplar sandwiched in the centre. The all-purpose, well-rounded tone of maple offers an even response across high and mid-range frequencies with a warm low-end tone. This combines perfectly with the softer highs and mids of poplar which also offers a boosted low-end warmth for a truly robust, punchy bottom end tone. The wood choices and 3 ply build of the Broadkaster were what created the great Gretsch sound of this flagship series. That’s why it was essential to maintain this construction when it came to the reintroduction of the new Broadkaster range.

Exclusive Reverse Roundover

The hand-finished shells of the Broadkaster drum kit feature Gretsch’s exclusive reverse roundover bearing edges. This edge design serves to allow greater contact between the bearing edge of the shell and the drumhead. The result is a more consistent tone that is incredibly deep and warm.

Interior Design

Gretsch use a scarf joint on the interior ply of their Broadkaster shells to add structural integrity to the thin shells. This ensures they remain robust and strong despite their thin construction.

As with all USA-made Gretsch drums, the interior of the Broadkaster shells are finished with the classic Gretsch Silver Sealer. Although the formula for this sealer is kept strictly secret, Gretsch believe it adds marked improvement to the overall sound of the drum shells, adding further to that classic Gretsch sound.

Finishing Touches

The toms and snare of the Broadkaster kit feature Gretsch’s “302” hoops which are 3mm double flanged steel. Postioned somewhere between a triple flanged hoop and a diecast hoop, the 302s are designed to offer a more open tone than diecast hoops and to add ambient overtones to the overal sound characteristic of the drums.

The 24” undrilled bass drum is finished with matching lacquer maple hoops for a consistently classy overall aesthetic.

This Gretsch Broadkaster Satin Gold Black Duco kit comes with the standard hardware build, featuring Gretsch’s straight-sided GTS tom mounting system and G9025 bracket for secure and stable tom positioning. The 16" floor tom comes complete with G4825 brackets and 12.7mm diameter legs for a strong and stable playing set up. The kit has a GTH-SLC single tom holder included for mounting the tom securely to a cymbal stand.

Also worth mentioning is that the snare features a Gretsch Lightning Throwoff with a smooth action for precise positioning of the snare wires to achieve the exact snare response you require.

All the drums are fitted with Remo heads with the snare and toms featuring Coated Gretsch Permatone batter heads while the bass drum has a Coated Powerstroke Permatone batter and a White Permatone reso head adorned with the 1950s style Gretsch Broadkaster logo.

Duco Decoration

This 24” Broadkaster drum kit has a finish that offers a classy nod to the past. Featuring a Satin Gold Black Duco finish reminiscent of old school 60s drum kits, this Broadkaster kit has a stunning aesthetic that would not look out of place in any music style. Featuring stripes of black around the edge of the shell the black fades to a striking gold central band for an eye-catching look that’s as impressive as the sound of the kit.
