A Classic, Traditional Design, Revisited
Early 1950s Les Paul guitars came equipped with P-90 single coil pickups, but with the invention of the PAF humbucker in 1957, the sonic landscape was changed forever.
PAF pickups were named "humbuckers" due to the fact that they eliminated the unwanted 60 cycle hum normally associated with Single Coils - they literally "bucked the hum". This meant the guitars could now be played at much higher volumes, paving the way for louder and more aggressive musical styles.
As a bonus point, the tones these pickups generated were richer and thicker than a single coil too, perfectly complimenting the nature of a Les Paul guitar.
And so, by 1958 the Les Paul Standard was born.
Rock Solid Construction
Part of the original 1950's Les Paul's appeal, even more than six decades after its release, is the rock-solid feel you get from it. This was down to the rounded neck profile, and non-chambered solid mahogany back.
With the new Gibson Les Paul Standard 50s lineup, that particular type of construction is back!
With the solid body and maple top, you get a naturally rich tone with plenty of high-end snap. On top of that, there's a Vintage 50s profile Mahogany neck, that sits comfortably in your hand.
BurstBucker Pickups
Complimenting the traditional Les Paul Standard build is a set of vintage-voiced BurstBucker pickups, created to invoke the much coveted voice of those original PAF pickups.
With the BurstBucker 1 and BurstBucker 2 combination on this Les Paul Standard guitar, you get one of the closest approximations to this elusive tone yet.
These vintage-sounding pickups offer you the choice between that vintage, creamy neck pickup sound, and the hotter, biting bridge tones.
Each of these pickups has independent Volume and Tone controls, opening up a whole world of vintage voices for you to choose from.
