Crafting the King of the Flat Tops
A super jumbo guitar, the Gibson SJ-200 produces incredible volume with great depth.
Solid Sitka Spruce has been used for the resonating top of the SJ-200. Known for its strength and elasticity, Sitka Spruce has fantastic resonance, producing complex tones with great projection.
Imbuing the SJ-200’s tone with extra warmth and strengthened sustain while adding to the beautiful aesthetic, Maple has been used for the back and sides.
Traditional, hand-scalloped x-bracing is incorporated, further enhancing the resonance and tone of the 2019 SJ-200.
Vintage Style Neck
Securely attached with a compound dovetail neck-to-body joint is a two-piece Maple neck sporting a round neck profile.
A throwback to the origins of this amazing guitar, giving you a more substantial grip that is ideal if you have bigger hands.
Atop the neck, you’ll find a traditional Rosewood neck, giving you a fantastic playing area and completing the vintage feel.
Furthermore, Mother-of-Pearl Graduated Crown position inlays add a certain regal essence to the SJ-200’s aesthetic. A fitting vibe for the guitar known as “King of Flat Tops”!
LR Baggs Anthem Electronics
Not only does the SJ-200 sound fantastic acoustically, but you get the same incredible sound when you plug in.
This is because the Gibson SJ-200 2019 is fitted with the award-winning LR Baggs Anthem pickup system, featuring patented TRU-MIC technology.
An LR Baggs Element pickup is used as part of Anthem system. This pickup has a flexible film sensor that tracks the motion of the SJ-200’s Sitka Spruce top.
Because of this pickup, instead of just taking vibration from the strings, you get the full resonant tone of what your guitar actually sounds like.
The Tru-Mic is mounted on the underside the bridge plate, slightly above the surface. This allows it to pick up the pressure zone or “boundary” effect.
The element pickup, proprietary mounting system and noise cancellation combine for a formidable force.
As a result, when the SJ-200 is plugged in, it sounds as if it has been recorded by a microphone on the outside of the guitar in a studio.
This method also provides fantastic feedback suppression; ideal for stage performance. The result is excellent clarity for beautifully pure sound and a wonderfully balanced frequency response.
Furthermore; volume, mix and phase controls are all onboard allowing you to get the best possible sound at all times.
High Quality Hardware
One of the most visually distinctive aspects of the Gibson SJ-200 is its Moustache bridge. Made with Rosewood, this striking bridge, along with its TUSQ bridge pins, provides excellent transfer of string energy to the resonating top of the guitar.
TUSQ is also used for the nut because it is precision engineered under high heat and pressure, and so enhances the frequencies in the guitar strings. As a result, you get fantastic sustain.
Up on the headstock, there are Grover Rotomatic tuning machines with a gold finish, appropriate for a guitar royalty.
