The Gibson Hummingbird Mahogany Avant Garde, seen here in a beautiful Light Cherry Burst, gives you a new take on the iconic Hummingbird.

A Gibson Hummingbird for The Modern Guitarist

Originally released in 1960, the Hummingbird was Gibson’s first square-shoulder dreadnought style acoustic guitar.

In production ever since, the Gibson Hummingbird is most certainly an iconic entry for Gibson acoustic guitars.

The Gibson Hummingbird Mahogany AG boasts the same handcrafted, time-tested build techniques that make it such an exceptional instrument, but with some modern elements to please even the most demanding of today’s guitarists.

Gibson Hummingbird Mahogany Avant Garde Key Features:

  • Solid Sitka Spruce Top
  • Mahogany Back and Sides
  • Traditional Hand-Scalloped Bracing
  • Advanced Response Neck Profile
  • Rosewood Fretboard
  • Mini Grover Rotomatic Tuners
  • LR Baggs Element Electronics
  • Includes Gibson Hardshell Case and Accessory Kit

Crafting the New Hummingbird Avant Garde

An extremely popular tonewood due to its beautiful resonance, powerful projection and rich tones, solid Sitka Spruce has been used for the Gibson Hummingbird’s top.

For the back and sides, Gibson have used Mahogany which has great volume and is known for its clear, bright and airy trebles.

Traditional hand scalloped advanced x-style bracing is used to further enhance the tone and resonance.

With the inclusion of an elegantly curved cutaway to the body of the Gibson Hummingbird Mahogany Avant Garde, you get easy access to the upper frets.

Gibson Advanced Response Neck Profile

Attached to the body with an extremely secure compound dovetail neck-to-body joint is a Mahogany neck.

The neck features Gibson’s extremely popular Advanced Response neck profile, giving you a comfortable, ergonomic grip and speedy performance.

Atop the neck, Gibson have fitted the Hummingbird AG with a traditional Rosewood fretboard.

LR Baggs Element Electronics

An advanced form of undersaddle pickup, the LR Baggs Element system used in the Gibson Hummingbird Mahogany Avant Garde has incredible dynamic range.

Many electro-acoustic guitars lose all their natural, acoustic character as soon as you plug them in.

That’s why the LR Baggs Element was designed to reflect the movement of your guitar’s soundboard when you’re playing.

Using a flexible film sensor that is just two thousandths of an inch thick, the LR Baggs Element tracks the motion of the Hummingbird’s Sitka Spruce top.

Because of this, instead of just taking vibration from the string, you’re getting the full, resonant tone of what your guitar actually sounds like. As a result, you and your audience enjoy rich and vibrant sound.

Furthermore, thanks to its compact and streamlined design, it fits discretely in your guitar while minimising any influence it may have on the acoustic properties of the instrument.

Put simply, the LR Baggs Element allows your guitar to be heard the way it was meant to be heard.

High Quality Hardware

On the body of the Gibson Hummingbird Mahogany Avant Garde is a traditional, belly up style Rosewood bridge with TUSQ bridge pins, offering fantastic transfer of vibration from the strings to the solid Sitka Spruce top.

TUSQ is also used for the nut because it is precision engineered under high heat and pressure, and so enhances the frequencies in the guitar strings. As a result, you get fantastic sustain.

Up on the headstock, there are six Mini Grover Rotomatic tuning machines offering precise and incredibly secure tuning of your strings.

An Iconic Acoustic Guitar

In production for nigh on six decades, the Gibson Hummingbird is a legendary acoustic guitar.

Played by artists such as Sheryl Crow, Keith Richards and Lenny Kravitz, the Hummingbird boasts an incredible lineage and now it is your turn to be part of the legacy.

The Hummingbird Mahogany Avant Garde also comes with a Gibson hardshell case and accessory kit; the perfect way to take care of your investment.
