During the late 1970s, genius guitar innovator Leo Fender had begun to develop and launch a whole new brand of instruments, which featured his latest innovations. That brand was eventually released under the monicker G&L, with the ideas being developed at Leo's own CLF Research Company, and in homage to these first instruments the company has launched the new CLF Research basses.
The Return of an Icon
With the CLF Research L-1000 you get an instrument that brings back the best features of that iconic 1980 passive G&L bass, known by many as the "Wunkay", but packed into a slimmer 90's L-series body shape. This particular model features a Swamp Ash body with a Natural Lacquer finish, in addition to a Hard Rock Maple neck and maple fingerboard.
MFD Pickups
The Magnetic Field Design humbucker fitted to the G&L CLF L-1000 Bass uses a ceramic bar magnet, with soft iron pickup poles, and have been designed to give you a quieter pickup than what you'd normally get with Alnico magnets, but at the same time they give you a greater overall output. Tonally, MFD pickups are slightly warmer than their alnico counterparts, whilst offering a much broader frequency response.
In addition to this you get a 3-way toggle switch that allows you to alter the humbucker's circuitry between Parallel, Slip, and that iconic Wunkay OMG mode, giving you plenty of tonal versatility and punch at your disposal.
Slim "C" Neck Profile
An instrument's neck shape can arguably have a greater impact upon your playing experience than any other aspect. With that in mind, G&L have opted for a Slim "C" shape on the G&L CLF L-1000 Bass, offering you a supremely comfortable time, whilst granting you fast and easy access to each and every note on your fingerboard.
Swamp Ash Body
Taken from trees whose roots grow below water level, this relatively lightweight, porous wood is highly resonant across the entire frequency spectrum, but with a slightly scooped mid-range. This helps to make the instrument produce a more transparent sound than other woods, making it a perfect tonal platform for tweaking and adding effects to. Ideal for session musicians or those of you that like to experiment with your sound.
