A favourite for guitarists world over. The Fulltone OCD Ge Overdrive is based on the original design that used very specific germanium diodes that stopped being used as they became so expensive. Fulltone have found some of those old germanium diodes and for a limited run, the original Fulltone OCD makes a welcomed return, with a few interesting tweaks.
For those of you who are unfamiliar, the Fulltone OCD is a medium gain and incredibly touch-sensitive overdrive pedal with a strong dynamic range. It gained instant recognition upon its inception in 2005, used by the likes of Joey Santiago (The Pixies), Peter Frampton (Humble Pie, David Bowie), and Don Felder (The Eagles). Its stamp on rock history is undeniable and its tone - remarkable.
Obsessive Compulsive Drive
With 14 years of history under its belt, the OCD really has staked its claim in the hall of fame for drive pedals. This new limited iteration adds an extra germanium diode to the circuit on top of a few tweaks, which does a few things to the tone. First, the clarity this pedal produces is almost absurd, offering a great definition. Secondly, a huge dynamic range and increased sustain which lets single note riffs ring out and permeate the mix – if you were a fan of the original, you will fall in love with this.
Before the boom of boutique
OCD stood out because most other boutique companies concentrated on Fuzz Face or Tube Screamer clones. The OCD gave you a ‘Marshall in a box’ tone, it is a multistage overdrive that can add everything from subtle colour to your tube amp to a strong singing sustain. The pedal can also be used at various voltages (between 9v-18v) which can give even more headroom which is great once your amp starts to burst into saturation.
Fulltone Custom Shop
Adding to the family of specialities Fulltone has released, the OCD-Ge not only tweaks the circuit, but it also gets a facelift. This is a metallic teal over a chrome undercoat, and it looks stunning. These are limited so be sure get your order in, they won’t be around forever.
