This legendary axe has been a mainstay in contemporary music since the 1950's, and in more recent years there's been yet another famous Texan making full use of the awesome tones that Fender have on offer, none other than mr Eric Johnson. With that in mind, let's take a look at his Signature Series Stratocaster.

Over the years the US State of Texas has been responsible for a number of legendary guitar players, and many of them, from Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison to Stevie Rae Vaughan and beyond, have one thing in common: the Fender Stratocaster.

As a virtuoso guitar player renowned for commanding exquisite tone from his guitars, only the best is good enough for Eric Johnson, and as such only the very best engineering and construction has gone into building this Signature Series Stratocasters.

The nitrocellulose lacquer used on this guitar is one of the great original-era Fender electric guitar finishes.

It's thin, porous and delicate, a premium finish prized for sonic qualities that allow the true tonal character of the body woods to shine through, as well as being long-lasting and protective.

The extra-strong quartersawn maple neck of the EJ Signature Stratocaster has been sculpted with a sharper 50's style "V" profile, perfect for guitar players with larger hands whose thumb often extends over the edge of the fingerboard.

In addition to this the fingerboard of this signature Stratocaster has been designed specifically to have a much flatter curvature than vintage and modern style contemporaries. This has been done purposefully to ensure that the guitar is perfect for bending notes without fretting out.

Those clever designers over at Fender worked very closely in collaboration with Johnson to produce these Special Edition pickups, designing them specifically around his meticulous tonal needs.

The sound is, quite simply, incredible, delivering the kind of precise tone that would make any guitar afficionado weep with tears of joy.

These tuning pegs have been specifically chosen for their cool vintage-style look, combined with their modern reliability.

They're height-staggered in pairs, with posts that get progressively shorter from the low strings to the high, creating optimal string break angles from the nut to the tuners, with no consequent need for string trees.
