Fender Precision bass guitars have been amongst the world's most popular electric basses for more than 60 years, and with good reason too: they are as comfortable to play as any bassist could wish for, and produce a solid, reliable tone that's suitable for most musical styles. So, just how can Fender improve on something that's stood the test of time, something which is as relevant and popular today as it's ever been?
Active Electronics, PJ Pickup Configuration and a gorgeous Surf Pearl Finish
Introducing the Fender Deluxe Active P Bass Special - a modern take on a classic instrument, with plenty of features to further improve the tonal versatility and comfortable playing experience associated with the Precision.
Featuring an extra Jazz Bass style pickup in the bridge position, a modern "C"-shaped neck profile, HiMass Bridge, Active Electronics (including an Active/Passive toggle switch), Dluxe Gig Bag, and an all-new Pau Ferro fingerboard, the Deluxe Active P Bass Special is a force to be reckoned with, and at such a reasonable price, would make an excellent instrument of choice for both professional and amateur bassists alike.
PJ Pickup Configuration
The thick, punchy sounds generated by the P-Bass's usual mid-position split coil pickup is one of the main reasons for the instrument's popularity over the decades. However, on the Deluxe Active P Bass Special, the Split Coil pickup is perfectly complimented by a growling Jazz Bass style noiseless bridge pickup.
The combination of the two pickups offers you plenty of tonal versatility alone, more so than a standard P-Bass, but when working in conjunction with this incredible guitar's electronics system the possibilities are exciting indeed.
Active Electronics
The powerful, modern active electronics system featured on the Deluxe Active P Bass Special is the icing on the tonal cake. The three-band EQ housed in the electronics helps you produce the best tonal option with every note, whether subtle or explosive.
If a powerful, active electronics system isn't needed at this moment in time though, don't despair: the Deluxe Active P Bass Special comes equipped with an Active/Passive toggle switch, allowing you to disable the Active aspect, and allowing you to switch from a modern voice to something a little more vintage-sounding.
Modern "C" Neck Profile
Where neck profiles are concerned, the Modern "C" shape has been specially designed for both comfort and performance. Whether you're playing modern Jazz, Pop Punk, 70s Funk, or even Prog Metal, the "C" neck profile offers you a remarkably comfortable playing experience.
Pau Ferro Fingerboard
In light of the recent CITES law passed regarding Rosewood, guitar makers such as Fender have begun to responsibly source other wood-types for use in the construction of their guitars and fretboards.
On this particular bass guitar they have used a fingerboard made from Pau Ferro (also known as Brazilian Ironwood), a tonewood that is both visually and physically similar to Rosewood (albeit lighter in colour), but is responsibly sourced to minimise environmental impact.
This gorgeous looking fingerboard features a modern 12" radius, 20 medium jumbo frets, and pearloid dot inlay fret-markers.
