Epiphone and Gibson Custom Team Up to Create an Outstanding Mandolin
Orville Gibson revolutionized the modern mandolin, and Epiphone has integrated mandolins into its identity since its inception. In 1909, company founder Anastasios Stathopoulo filed his first and only patent for a mandolin. Gibson Master Luthier Lloyd Loar crafted the original F-5 mandolin in the early 1920s, whose success contributed to the birth of new musical genres like bluegrass. Now, Epiphone has partnered with the Gibson Custom Shop to release the new F-5G, the finest mandolin model Epiphone has produced to date. This exceptional "Inspired by Gibson Custom" instrument is a faithful recreation of the classic original, featuring all-solid wood construction with a figured maple back and sides, and a solid Sitka spruce top. The figured maple neck has an ebony fretboard with a compound radius (10” at the nut, 12” at the end of the fretboard) and an F-style scroll headstock with vintage-style tuners and pearloid buttons. Additional ornate details include three-ply top binding, mother-of-pearl "The Epiphone" and flowerpot headstock inlays, and a rich Cremona Sunburst finish. Whether playing rhythmic chops or lead lines, this mandolin delivers a balanced, deep, and resonant tone with excellent projection. It also comes with a vintage-style rectangular hardshell case.
