Proprietary HVX Shells

The shells of this DW Performance drum kit are constructed using DW’s proprietary HVX shell method.

Devised by John Good and the DW Custom Shop team, this HVX process combines grain orientation technology with hand selected maple to deliver a drum sound filled with rich resonance, piercing projection and a punchy low-end response.

The grain of each ply is alternated as it is placed into the mould to ensure a strong shell build with shape integrity.

Once in the mould the shell is baked under pressure in an oven before being moved to a pressurized cooler to allow the glue to crystallize instantly.

The end result is a drum shell that has hardened to a perfect cylinder to provide improved tuning and optimal tonal resonance.

Hand Select Maple

Each of the shells in this 3-piece drum kit are constructed from 8 plies of hand selected North American hard rock maple to provide versatile, all-purpose tone.

Known for it’s even high and mid frequency response, maple delivers a drum sound that has a lusciously warm low-end tone.

All of the shells are finished with DW 45 degree back cut bearing edges to offer a modern sound, sharp attack and piercing projection.

Patented Tension Rods

Showcasing the level of importance Drum Workshop place on keeping sound at the centre of everything they do, this DW Performance kit is fitted with true-pitch tuning rods.

Featuring a patented design, the true-pitch tension rods utilise a 5mm thread as opposed to the standard 12/24 thread commonly used on tension rods.

As a result, DW true-pitch rods have 1 thread positioned every 0.8mm compared to the standard 1 thread every 1.05mm, which is a 20% thread increase.

What this astonishing attention to detail means for you is that you can dial in more precise tuning to achieve the exact drum sound you need.

STM System

Further working to ensure this DW drum kit achieves its optimum tone, the 12” rack tom comes fitted with the DW Suspension Tom Mount system.

The patented design of the STM provides strong support for your rack tom without negatively affecting the resonance and sustain of the drum.

The mount attaches to the rack tom via 4 lugs to ensure complete isolation of the tom shell.

By keeping the shell and the mount separate, the tom is able to vibrate freely to deliver its maximum resonance and ensure a full tom tone.

In addition, the mount helps to prevent choking and aids easier tuning because it doesn’t include any grommets or washers that could inhibit the lug rod receivers.

The result is a rack tom that can be reliably positioned and supported whilst producing its full, resonant tone.

Exclusively Chrome

All of the kits in the DW Performance range come exclusively with chrome hardware to ensure a consistent aesthetic across the whole series.

This 3-piece shell pack is adorned with chrome Turret Lugs that are a scaled down version of the famous DW lug to deliver an instantly recognisable look.

The rack and floor tom are fitted with 2.3mm triple flanged hoop to offer a versatile tuning range and the 16” floor tom includes chrome steel 21” legs for reliable support.

The large 24” bass drum features low mass die-cast claw hooks to provide strong, rattle free hold of the bass drum hoops.

Coated/Clear Remo Heads

As with all the Drum Workshop Performance drums, this 3-piece maple kit is fitted with DW by Remo USA drumheads as standard.

The specially created DW Coated/Clear heads have a predominately clear design with an integrated coated tone ring to offer just the right amount of muffling that still delivers resonance.

Each of the Remo heads have crimped flesh hoops to ensure increased durability and maximum vibration.

The 12” and 16” toms are fitted with coated/clear batter heads and clear resonant heads while the 24” bass drum has a coated/clear batter with an inlay ring and an Ebony resonant logo vented head.
