HVX Shells

Devised by John Good and the DW Custom Shop team, DW have used a brand-new shell technology in the creation of their DW Performance series.

Combining the latest grain orientation technology with hand-selected North American hard rock maple DW have succeeded in producing shells that offer a low, punchy fundamental pitch, ample resonance and piercing projection.

The grain orientation process involves a precise pattern of long and short grain plies that are placed in to the mould with alternating grain directions to achieve a strong shell build.

The shell is then baked under pressure before being taken straight from the oven to a pressurized cooler to ensure the glue crystallizes instantly.

The result are drum shells that harden to a perfect cylinder to deliver improved tuning and optimum tonal resonance.

The Sound of Maple

Each of the shells in this 3-piece DW drum kit are constructed from 8 ply HVX maple to provide all-purpose tone capable of covering a diverse range of styles.

Characterised by it’s even highs and mid frequencies, maple produces warm lows to deliver a full, well-rounded sound.

The combination of the shell material and the building process works to provide a drum kit that offers the projection needed to cut through the mix on stage, but also the depth of tone required for the studio.

Whether you want the high-pitched tones of jazz or need the big booming lows of rock, this kit is able to cover both and everything else in between.

Each of the shells are finished with DW back cut 45 degree bearing edges to offer a modern tone filled with attacking projection.

Chrome Shadow Style

Exclusively Chrome

The hardware on the DW Performance series is exclusively chrome to provide classic style and a consistent look across the range.

The shells are adorned with Turret Lugs which are a scaled down version of the distinctive DW lug.

The toms are fitted with chrome triple flanged hoops which are graduated counter 2.3mm hoops to offer a versatile sound.

The bass drum is fitted with low mass die-cast claw hooks to provide reliable, rattle free hold and the floor tom comes complete with standard chrome steel 21” legs to provide robust support for the 16” floor tom.

Suspension Tom Mount

The 12” tom of this Drum Workshop kit is fitted with the patented Suspension Tom Mount to provide sound aiding support for the rack tom.

The STM fixes to the rack tom via 4 lug points to allow complete isolation of the shell and prevent any negative interference with the tom sound.

By keeping the mount and the shell separated the tom is allowed to vibrate freely to achieve its maximum resonance.

Plus, the mount reduces choking and aids easy tuning because it does not include any washers or grommets that could inhibit the lug rod receivers.

The result is a tom mount that offers rugged support for your rack tom without jeopardising the natural sustain of the drum.

True-Pitch Tuning Rods

Further working to ensure you achieve your optimum drum sound, this DW Performance shell pack comes fitted with true-pitch tuning rods.

This patented design features tension rods with 5mm threads rather than the standard 12/24 thread.

Essentially what this means is, on the true pitch tension rods there is one thread every 0.8mm compared to 1 thread every 1.05mm on a standard tension rod.

That works out to be a thread increase of 20%.

What this means for you is a set of drums that offer more exact tuning to ensure you achieve the precise sound you need.

Remo Drumheads

This 3-piece DW Performance kit comes fitted with DW by Remo USA drumheads as standard.

The 12” rack tom and 16” floor tom have coated/clear batter heads and clear resonant heads.
