Maple Tone

Utilising DW’s proprietary HVX shell technology which involves a precise pattern of long and short plies, this drum kit delivers the ultimate in versatile tone and optimum resonance.

Created by DW executive vice president John Wood and the DW Custom Shell Shop, the HVX process blends grain orientation technology with hand selected North American hard rock maple to deliver low punchy tone, ample resonance and piercing projection.

The grain orientation idea involves alternating the direction of the grain of each ply as it's placed into the mould in order to achieve a shell with strength and shape integrity.
As soon as the shell has finished being baked under pressure it is immediately moved to a pressurized cooler to allow the glue to instantly crystallize to produce a hardened, perfectly cylindrical shell.

All of the shells in this DW Performance kit are made from 8 plies of maple to deliver versatile all-purpose tone filled with even highs and mids and a lusciously warm low-end response.

45 Degree Edges

All of the shells in this DW Drums kit are finished with 45 degree back cut bearing edges to ensure modern, attacking tone.

Patented Tension Rods

Each of the drums in this DW Performance kit come fitted with true-pitch tension rods to provide stronger hold and more precise tuning.

The majority of standard tension rods have one thread every 1.05mm while the true-pitch tuning rods have 1 thread every 0.8mm.

This 20% increase in thread allows the tension rods to achieve more exact and longer lasting tuning across the whole kit to ensure you always achieve the sound you require.

Precise Placement, Strong Sustain

Both rack toms of this DW Performance Gold Sparkle kit are fitted with the patented DW Suspension Tom Mount (STM) to ensure strong support and precise positioning of the toms without restricting their natural resonance.

The STM works by attaching to the rack toms via 4 lug points to prevent direct contact between the shell and the mount, which would detrimentally affect the shells ability to vibrate.

By isolating the mount from the shell, the toms are allowed to vibrate freely to achieve their optimum resonance.

In addition, the STM is free of washers and grommets that could inhibit the lug rod receivers which would cause tuning difficulties and increase tom tone choking.

By avoiding shell restriction and removing problematic parts the STM delivers robust support for reliable tom placement whilst promoting the natural sustain of the drums.

Reliable Remo Heads

The DW Performance shell pack comes fitted with DW Remo USA drumheads as standard to ensure reliable durability and superior sound straight out of the box.

The 20” bass drum has a coated / clear batter head with inlay ring and an Ebony resonant logo vented head, while the toms are fitted with coated / clear batter heads and clear resonant heads.

The DW Remo coated/clear heads feature a predominately clear design that incorporates a coated tone ring to deliver just the right amount of muffling with plenty of resonance.

Each of the heads has crimped flesh hoops to provide maximum vibration and durability.
