HVX Shell

DW utilise a proprietary HVX shell building process in the making of their DW Performance drums.

Devised by vice president John Wood and the DW Custom Shell Shop, the HVX process combines grain orientation technology with hand select maple.

Each ply is placed into the mould with alternating grain patterns in order to achieve a super strong shell construction with optimum shape integrity.

The mould is then baked in an oven under pressure and then moved immediately to a pressurized cooler to enable the glue to crystallize quickly.

The result is a harden snare shell that is perfectly cylindrical to accommodate superb tuning range and optimum sustain.

Hand Select Maple

This Drum Workshop snare is constructed from 10 plies of hand selected North American rock maple to deliver versatile tone capable of covering a variety of playing styles.

Maple is characterised by its warm low-end tone, even highs and mids and it’s all purpose sound.

The shell is also finished with DW 45-degree back cut bearing edges to offer a modern sound filled with attacking projection.

The combination of the warm lows of maple and the cutting character of 45-degree edges works to produce a snare sound with a lively, bright tone that’s capable of cutting through on stage as well as delivering depth of tone in the studio.

The chunky 8” depth of the shell further helps to deliver full bodied tone capable of offering an impactful thud at low tunings and cranked cut at higher settings.

Purposefully Simple Throw Off

This DW Performance Chrome Shadow snare is fitted with the DW Mag Snare Throw Off System to provide smooth adjustment of the snare wires.

Featuring a purposefully simple design, the Mag throw off is a workhorse drop throw with a horizontal tension adjustment to ensure fast, intricate snare setting.

The throw off takes its name from the small magnet which is integrated into the body of the throw off to hold the handle firmly in the upright position as you play.

Helping to prevent the strainer from becoming loose and disengaging as you play the snare, this nifty little magnet works to ensure your snare setting stays in place no matter how hard you hit.

When the time comes to release the snare wires, the Mag handle can be separated from the magnet with a slight tug.

It then instantly throws the wires completely off the resonant head to avoid snare buzz and offer a quick and clean release.

Patented Tension Rods

Further helping you to achieve your ideal snare sound, this 14” DW snare is fitted with patented true-pitch tension rods.

Featuring a patented design, the true-pitch tuning rods have a 5mm thread as opposed to the standard 12/24 thread found on most tension rods.

This change results in the true-pitch rods having 1 thread every 0.8mm compared to the standard one thread every 1.05mm.

This 20% increased in thread accommodates more exact and precise tuning to ensure you’re able to achieve the specific sound you require.

So, whether you want low, fat thud, or need high, cranked cut, the true-pitched tension rods make finding and maintaining your perfect snare sound much easier.

DW Remo Drumheads

This DW snare drum comes fitted with DW Remo USA drumheads as standard to provide reliable durability and superior sound straight out of the box.

The batter side is fitted with a coated reverse dot head which has tuning sequence numbering on it to help easy and successful tuning.

The underside has a clear Remo snare side resonant head.

Shimmering Shadow

Part of the DW Ultra Durable FinishPly finishes range, this snare features a shimmering Chrome Shadow finish.
