Maple Warmth

The shell of this DW Performance snare is constructed from 10 plies of maple to deliver all-purpose tone filled with even highs and mids combined with luscious warm lows.

The snare has been built using DW’s proprietary HVX shell technology which has been devised by vice president John Wood and the DW Custom Shell Shop to deliver versatile sound and optimum resonance.

Combining grain orientation technology with hand selected North American hard rock maple, the HVX process produces a snare that delivers low punchy tones, ample resonance and piercing projection. 

Grain orientation involves alternating the direction of the ply grain as each ply is put into the mould to achieve a shell with shape integrity and super strength.

Once the snare shell has been baked under pressure it is instantly moved to a pressurized cooler to make sure the glue crystallizes immediately to ensure a perfectly cylindrical shell.

Capable of producing the cutting projection needed to slice through the mix on stage, this 14x5.5” snare drum also offers rich warm depth of tone ideal for studio recording.

Modern Edges

As with all drums in the DW Performance Series, this DW snare drum is finished with 45 degree back cut bearing edges.

DW Mag Throw Off

The DW Performance Chrome Shadow snare is fitted with the well-designed Mag Snare Throw Off System to provide smooth, easy and efficient adjustability of the snare wires.

Chrome finished and featuring a purposefully simple design, the Mag throw off is a workhorse drop throw with a horizontal tension adjustment to offer quick and intricate setting changes.

The Mag snare strainer is named after the clever magnet that’s integrated into the body of the throw-off which works to keep the handle securely in the upward position so that it won’t release without a slight tug.

This simple yet effective design feature ensures that the throw off won’t come loose as you play resulting in loss of the snare wire effect.

Instead it holds the snare wires securely against the resonant head to ensure a consistent snare response you can rely on.

Then when the handle is released it throws the strainer completely off the head to avoid any strainer buzz, for a quick and clean snare release.

True-Pitch Tension Rods

This DW Chrome Shadow Performance Snare is fitted with true-pitch tension rods to accommodate strong hold and precise tuning.

While most tension rods feature one thread every 1.05mm, the true-pitch tuning rods have 1 thread every 0.8mm; a 20% increase on the standard.

The result of this increased thread is a set of tension rods that achieve more exact and longer lasting tuning across the snare drum to ensure you achieve the exact sound you require from low and fat to cranked and cutting.
