8 Ply Maple Shells

The shells of the DW Performance kit are constructed using hand-selected North American hard rock maple. The plies have been arranged using grain orientation technology in a specifically designed pattern of long and short plies utilising DW’s special HVX shell construction method. This brand new shell technology was devised by DW’s chief operating officer John Good and the DW Custom Shell Shop in California. The result is a shell that delivers a low, punchy fundamental tone with ample resonance and projection, making it ideal for live applications.

45-degree Bearing Edges

Each shell of the DW Performance kit is finished with DW’s 45-degree back-cut bearing edges to offer a modern sound with superb projection and tone.

Innovative Hardware

The hardware on the DW Performance is exclusively chrome. The Performance series turret lugs are a scaled-down version of the famous round DW lug offering less shell contact and a more compact aesthetic.

Triple Flanged Hoops

The toms feature graduated counter triple flanged hoops. The 10” is fitted with 1.6mm hoops while the 12” and 16” toms have 2.3mm for a versatility of sound.

Suspension Tom Mount

The Performance drum kit comes with DW’s patented STM (suspension tom mount) which allows the toms to vibrate freely providing maximum resonance without compromising the secure hold and positioning of the mount. The lack of washers and grommets within the mounting system ensure the lug rod receiver isn’t inhibited, which reduces choking and allows for easy tuning.

True-Pitch Tuning Rods

Another innovative feature of the DW Performance drum kit is the True-Pitch Tuning Rods. These patented tension rods feature a 5mm thread which is different when you compare it to the typical 12/24 thread of most rods. Big deal you might think. But, having a 5mm tension rod thread means that you have 1 thread every 0.8mm, which is 20% more thread than a standard tension rod. With standard rods, you’ll find 1 thread every 1.05mm. So what does this mean for your drums? Well, the result is a more exact tuning process. The improved thread grip of the DW True-Pitch Tuning Rods means the drums are easier to tune and hold their tuning longer. When we said DW paid attention to detail with the Performance Series, we really meant it!

Finishing Touches

Maintaining the high-standard found throughout the design and construction of this DW drum kit, the Performance kit comes complete with chrome plated steel 21” floor tom legs, a newly designed badge, logo bass drum resonant head and low mass die-cast claw bass drum hooks. All the drums come fitted with DW Remo USA drumheads.
