100% Birch Shells

Constructed from 100% Scandinavian birch, the shells of this British Drum Co. Legend kit are 10 ply thick.

Painstakingly cut to length by hand each birch ply is placed into the mould in a cross laminated formation for added shell strength.

The shells are then cold-press moulded to produce a thin 6mm thick shell that although thin maintains super strength.

Known for it’s boosted high frequencies, subdued mid-range and punchy low-end tone, birch drums are typically loud and cutting.

45 Degree Bearing Edges

Perfectly complementing the 10 ply birch construction, the shells of the BDC legend kit feature precision hand cut 45 degree bearing edges.

Producing a robust attacking tone followed by a well rounded deep sustain, the 45 degree edges provide this kit with brilliant projection, backed up by fat power and full tone.

2 Ply Reinforcement Rings

Maintaining a precise attention to detail, BDC have added 2 ply reinforcement rings to the inside of each shell.

These reinforcement rings add an extra layer of strength to the thin 6mm shells to ensure a robust shell with great durability.

Cold-Press Moulding

Their signature cold-press moulding is what British Drum Co see as the key to their sound.

Following years of experience in wood working, BDC believe the secret to their great sound and stable shell construction is the absence of heat.

While other companies tend to heat up and then cool down their shells whilst in the mould, British Drum Co prefer a more natural approach.

The timber and the shells are allowed to naturally acclimatise to the surrounding environment, both before, during and after the moulding process.

The result is a superbly constructed, strong, stable drum shell that offers consistent, clean tone for a wide-ranging kit sound.

Palladium Lugs

All kits in the British Drum Co legend series are adorned with BDC’s elegant palladium hardware.

Taking its inspiration from art deco era architecture and automotive design, this beautiful shell hardware provides an instantly classic look for a super classy, timeless aesthetic.

The toms are fitted with small single palladium lugs while the bass drum has large single lugs for an overall consistently striking appearance.

The cast alloy lugs are complemented perfectly by the styling of the bass drum claws, which come fitted with Shore 60 hardness moulded rubber gaskets to protect the wooden hoops from the metal claws.

Palladium Tom Brackets

In addition to the palladium lugs, the toms of the legend series kit are fitted with matching palladium tom brackets.

The brackets feature a unique attachment design which utilises vertically aligned fixings that work to ensure the shell is able to resonant freely.

The tom brackets have been specifically designed to ensure the shells don’t stiffen up or cause dead spots in the shell’s vibration.

Instead the brackets allow the tom shells to resonate a full 360 degrees for a full, vibrant, tone-filled sustain.

The BDC palladium brackets feature an internal chevron design allowing them to clamp 10.5mm and 12.5mm diameter L-arms and floor tom legs to ensure a super secure set up, free from unwanted movement or rotation.

In addition to the super secure design, the palladium tom brackets also come fitted with self-aligning memory locks, that not only provide a consistent aesthetic but also allow quick, consistent set up every time.

Excellent Exo-Tone

British Drum Co’s trademarked Exo-Tone finishes are made possible thanks to their cold press moulding system.

This process allows the laminate to be put into the mould first when building the shell. It almost becomes the first ply in the shell construction.

This ensures the shell is made to the correct size unlike other companies who makes the shell to a specific size and then add the wrap afterwards.

Incorporating the finish into the shell construction from the start ensures a precise size is achieved which in turn enables much easier head to shell contact for a better response and cleaner sound.

Another superb aspect of the Exo-Tone finish is the Exo-Tone strip. This laser cut strip was specifically designed to cover the finish seam.

Typically, wrapped drums look messy where the wrap join is overlapped. Fitting the wrap in this way often also means that the wrap moves overtime resulting in splits in the join or in the wrap peeling away from the shell.

British Drum Co’s innovative exo-tone strip not only provides a beautifully well finished aesthetic it also eliminates the seam weak point, ensuring the laminate finish remains firmly in place.

The cold press mould system itself already works to ensure the wrap is as strongly adhered to the shell as possible but the exo-tone strip adds that final attention to detail to finish off the shell perfectly.
