Is Kontakt a DAW?
Kontakt can run as a standalone application but is used most often as an audio instrument (or plug-in) inside a digital audio workstation (DAW, sequencer).

What's the difference between komplete and Kontakt?
Kontakt is a sampler and Komplete 1-13 is a bundle of NI products. Kontakt is a library (figuratively) and Komplete (as a plugin) is the librarian. As a plugin, Komplete will pull all of your NI presets into one searchable and playable instrument.
