PERFECT FOR BEGINNERS AND EXPERIENCED PLAYERS
It feels like we say this a lot here at PMT – but just because you’re just starting out in the world of guitar-playing – that doesn’t mean you need to compromise on quality, sound or playability. The Epiphone SG is super popular with new guitarists because they're robust, light-weight and sounds incredible. Most importantly though, just about anyone can afford this no matter what budget you’re on. We’d also recommend the Epiphone SG as a backup for a Gibson SG – this can be an ideal cheap alternative in-case you snap a string during a set.
HUGE SOUND AND EXCELLENT PLAYABILITY
With the Epiphone, you’ll still get that classic SG sound. It can be clean, edgy and has a whole lot of bite. Perhaps this is why the Gibson SG’s are often seen within the rock and roll community. The model has become renowned for sporting a comfortable and fast neck which came in handy for lightening fast players such as Angus Young. Their robust nature also comes in handy with hard touring regimes – it is probably one of the ultimate workhorse guitars.
EPIPHONE SG BASS MODELS
Bass models of the Epiphone SG are also available. Again, they carry all of those distinctive and instantly recognisable characteristics of the Epiphone SG. You’ll essentially be getting a slick and versatile bass with two humbucker pickups which are capable of offering a really thick and warm sound.

FAQs
-
What are SG guitars good for?
Playability: with its extra-thin neck, the Gibson SG not only saved weight but also made it extra easy to play – it was dubbed the fastest neck in the world, and is still a benchmark for speed (and sometimes preferred by guitarists with small hands).
-
What does SG stand for guitar?
The SG (where SG refers to Solid Guitar) Standard is Gibson's best-selling model of all time.
-
Why is SG cheaper than Les Paul?
The SG is much easier to make and has less wood involved in its build. LPs have carved tops much more labor than a flat topped body. There is also the binding done on LPs and never seen on SGs.
