The Zildjian 18” K Cluster Crash Cymbal features a series of deep hammering marks clustered around the cymbal surface to deliver a dirty, trashy characteristic to its sound. With an extra thin weight for fast attack, this crash also has an unlathed bell to deliver improved tonal spread. The perfect crash for the drummer looking for something outside the norm!

K Cluster Crash

Developed following the success of the award-winning Zildjian K Sweet Crashes, the K Cluster series was introduced at NAMM 2019.

Featuring a paper thin weight to deliver a fast blast of attacking tone, the real trashy character of this crash is produced thanks to its hammered pattern.

The cymbal surface houses various small clusters of deep hammer marks which serve to deliver a trashy edge to the sound without the need for slots or holes.

Providing a short, sharp, trashy burst of dark tone, the Zildjian K Cluster Crashes were made for those who want something a little different.

Zildjian 18” K Cluster Crash Cymbal Key Features:

  • Dark, Funky, Trashy Tone
  • Traditional K Hammering with Additional Cluster Marks
  • Extra Thin Weight
  • Unlathed Bell
  • Fast Attack
  • Short Sustain
  • Available in Various Sizes

Deep Hammering Clusters

The 18” K Cluster Crash features the same traditional K hammering technique used across the Zildjian K cymbal range but with added clusters of deeper hammering marks.

Providing this cymbal with its signature sound, these small hammered clusters are dotted around the cymbal surface and serve to create a “dirty” tonal characteristic.

Offering a unique twist on the standard crash cymbal response, the hammering technique creates a crash sound with a dark, trashy nature.

Typically to achieve a level of trashy response cymbals will have holes and slots cut into them, and although this does result in a trashy sound it also creates a white-noise characteristic to the sound.

With the K Cluster Crash, Zildjian have utilised the clustered hammering to create a trashy cymbal sound without the electronic style white noise tone.

Dirty Darkness

The K Cluster series was specifically designed to provide drummers with an alternative sound to the norm.

Slotting neatly into the Zildjian K Series, this 18” crash cymbal is dark yet remains well suited to a wide range of musical styles.

Offering the deep, warm, expressive sound synonymous with the Zildjian K range, this Cluster crash adapts the sound slightly to deliver a new tone filled with dark, funky, trashiness.

Fast Attack, Short Sustain

The extra thin weight of this 18” K Cluster Crash allows it to open up extremely quickly to produce a fast attacking flash of sound.

Producing a responsive burst of tone that springs into action with the slightest touch, this crash cymbal delivers a punch of instant attack ideal for fast accents.

In addition to the fast attack, the K Cluster crash also has a short sustain to create a speedy burst of sound that fades as quickly as it appears.

The result is a cymbal sound that provides a short, sharp flash of accenting tone that dies quickly for a neat and compact overall response.

Unlathed Bell

In combination with the cluster hammering design, this Zildjian K Cluster Crash also features an unlathed bell which serves to deliver a greater tonal spread of sound.

The bell design also adds additional frequencies to the crash sound for a much fuller sound response to provide extra impact.

The combination of the hammering pattern and the unlathed bell means the 18” K Cluster Crash is filled with trashy wash yet always remains controlled to provide a short, sharp flash of accenting tone.

Size Selection

The Zildjian K Cluster Crash is available in 3 different size options; 16”, 18” and 20”.

The 16” crash delivers a higher tone with the 18” and 20” models providing a gradually lower pitch as the size increases.

Offering varying degrees of dark pitch, there’s a sound option to fit your preference across the 3 sizes.

A combination of the different sizes also works well to provide a complementary range of tonal options to add to your drum kit setup.

Summary

Providing drummers with something a little different, the K Cluster crashes take the standard darkness of the Zildjian K range and add a touch of dirtiness to it.

Offering a fast attack thanks to its extra thin weight and featuring a short sustain means this 18” K Crash always produces a neat blast of accenting tone that fades quickly to deliver a short, sharp flash of musical punctuation.

Combining the natural characteristics of a crash cymbal with the raw trashy tone of an effects cymbal, the 18” K Cluster Crash is the ideal option for drummers who want to stand out from the crowd.
