The Build

The DJ Ashba has a flat top body made of Alder with a bolt-on construction securely connecting the Maple neck to the body.

The bolt-on construction adds to the hard-rock aesthetic while also enhancing the mid-range punch of the tone. The thin ‘C’ shape of the neck makes playing the DJ Ashba comfortable and easy to play.

Continuing the dark aesthetic of the DJ Ashba guitar is the Ebony fretboard with features 22 ultra-playable X-Jumbo frets.

The Hardware

At the top of the neck you’ll find a Floyd Rose 1500 Series locking nut, keeping your strings tightly in tune and in place no matter how much you’re bending them. The locking nut pairs perfectly with the Floyd Rose 1500 series bridge so you can crank the whammy bar and get all the awesome sound you need without worrying about your DJ Ashba signature guitar going out of tune mid-set.

Schecter have also equipped the DJ Ashba guitar with Grover Rotomatic tuners. These rock solid machineheads are an upgraded version of the original Rotomatic tuners with improved, higher ratio gearing.

The new 18:1 ratio provides you with extremely fine tuning with greater stability. The finer gears used provide a much smoother tuning action a higher degree of backlash elimination. This new version of the Grover Rotomatic tuners uses the exact same housing as the original model but with all the modern, upgraded gearing inside.

The combined forces of this hardcore, heavy duty hardware means that you can play how you want to play; hard, fast and extreme, without worrying about a thing.

The Sound

Any fan of Sixx AM is familiar with DJ Ashba’s unique combination of hard rock, alternative metal guitar tones that retain a beautifully melodic style, plus there’s no denying that his time with Motley Crue and Guns N’ Roses has added an extra layer of flavour to his tone.

Getting the sound right for the DJ Ashba signature guitar was more important than anything so Schecter have cut no corners when it came to the electronics.

To achieve results worthy of bearing the DJ Ashba name, Schecter opted for a combination of an EMG 81 bridge pickup and a Sustainiac pickup in the neck position.

The Sustainiac pickup takes the vibrations of the guitar processes it and then it is amplified by the Systainiac circuit. 

This processed and amplified pickup signal is then connected to the Sustainiac driver which turns your amplified guitar note into vibrational energy. This energy is then fed back into the strings via the Sustainer resulting in an intense vibration, awesome harmonics and a note that will sustain indefinitely.

Imagine having the feedback you can get from your amp but in a completely controllable state, built into your guitar so you don’t have to go anywhere and with a sustain that will literally last for as long as you want it to.

The EMG 81 installed on the DJ Ashba signature guitar is one of EMG’s most popular pickups. By utilising powerful ceramic magnets and close aperture coils the EMG 81 produces incredibly detailed tones with an awesome amount of high end cut and fluid sustain.

Found in the bridge position of the DJ Ashba guitar, the EMG 81 humbucker gives you an awesome tone that allows you to cut right through the mix no matter how crowded it is.

You get full control over your tone through the use of a series of powerful controls. First there is the simple volume control and a three-way pickup selector switch.

Next, you have a number of controls for you to take full advantage of the Sustainiac system. A 2-way, On/Off Sustainiac switch combines with a 3-way Sustainiac Mode switch allowing you to flick between Fundamental, Mix and Harmonic giving you a full arsenal to tame the awesome tone of the DJ Ashba guitar.

The Look

Of course, the Schecter DJ Ashba wouldn’t be complete without taking time to consider the overall aesthetic of the guitar.

The eye-catching Satin White finish of the DJ Ashba contrasts nicely with the black hardware and dark Ebony fretboard. A dark racing stripe design speeds across the body.

Across the length of the fretboard, in true DJ Ashba style is an awesome ‘Birds on A Wire’ inlay theme with the crows seemingly purchased on each of the guitar’s Sixx strings.
